Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

A single hospitalization for a serious illness can cost anywhere between ₹2 lakh and ₹20 lakh or more, pushing many low-income families into financial distress. Treatments such as cancer care, heart surgery, kidney transplantation, neurosurgery and trauma care are often beyond the reach of economically weaker households without financial assistance.

To ensure that eligible families in Andhra Pradesh are not deprived of life-saving healthcare due to financial constraints, the Government of Andhra Pradesh operates the Dr. NTR Vaidya Seva Scheme through the Dr. NTR Vaidya Seva Trust. The scheme offers completely cashless treatment for a wide range of approved medical and surgical procedures at empanelled government and private hospitals across the state.

Under the state's Universal Health Policy, the scheme has been integrated with Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) to provide cashless health coverage of up to ₹25 lakh per eligible family per year. The first ₹2.5 lakh of approved treatment expenses is covered through an insurance company, while expenses exceeding ₹2.5 lakh and up to ₹25 lakh are borne by the Dr. NTR Vaidya Seva Trust. The scheme currently covers 3,257 approved medical and surgical procedures across 31 medical specialties, including cardiology, oncology, nephrology, neurosurgery, orthopaedics, critical care, polytrauma, organ transplantation and several other super-speciality treatments.

Eligible beneficiaries can receive these services without paying the approved package cost at empanelled hospitals. Depending on the procedure, the package generally includes specialist consultation, diagnostic tests, hospitalisation, surgery, medicines, implants, intensive care, food during the hospital stay, transportation assistance, post-discharge medicines and follow-up care.

Apart from the Dr. NTR Vaidya Seva Scheme, the Government of Andhra Pradesh also operates several other social security programmes for eligible residents. You may also explore the Dr. YSR Aarogyasri Scheme for financial assistance towards specialised medical treatments, the Andhra Pradesh Chandranna Bima Scheme for insurance protection to workers and their families, and the YSR Bima Scheme, which provides financial support in cases of accidental death or disability.

• Families having an annual income up to ₹5 lakh are also covered under the Universal Health Policy.

How to Avail Treatment Under the Dr. NTR Vaidya Seva Scheme

• Step 1: Visit a Government or Network Hospital
  • Visit any Government Hospital or empanelled private hospital under the Dr. NTR Vaidya Seva Scheme.
  • You can also reach the scheme through a PHC, health camp, or referral from another government healthcare facility.
  • In emergency cases, patients may directly approach a network hospital for immediate treatment.
• Step 2: Verify Your Eligibility
  • Visit the Vaidya Mithra Help Desk available at the hospital. Submit your Aadhaar-linked White Ration Card or other prescribed documents for verification.
  • The hospital verifies your eligibility through the online Dr. NTR Vaidya Seva portal and completes biometric registration, if required.
• Step 3: Medical Examination
  • A specialist doctor examines the patient and recommends the necessary tests.
  • If required, the patient is admitted for further evaluation.
  • Once the diagnosis is confirmed, the hospital checks whether the treatment is covered under the scheme.
• Step 4: Online Pre-authorisation
  • The hospital uploads the patient's medical reports and required documents to the Dr. NTR Vaidya Seva Trust portal.
  • An online pre-authorisation request is submitted for approval.
  • In emergency cases, the hospital may obtain immediate telephonic approval from the Trust.
• Step 5: Receive Cashless Treatment
  • After approval, the patient receives treatment without paying the approved package cost.
  • The package generally covers hospitalisation, surgery (if required), medicines, investigations, and other approved services.
  • If additional treatment is required, the hospital can request enhancement of the package as per the scheme guidelines.
• Step 6: Discharge and Follow-up Care
  • After recovery, the hospital provides a discharge summary and medicines for up to 10 days, wherever applicable.
  • Patients requiring long-term care receive follow-up consultations, investigations, and medicines according to the approved package.
  • Transportation assistance is also provided as per the scheme guidelines before the hospital submits the final claim.

Hospital Selection Process

• Beneficiaries can receive treatment only at hospitals empanelled under Dr. NTR Vaidya Seva.
• Hospitals are selected after fulfilling infrastructure, specialist, equipment and quality standards prescribed by the Trust.

Important Conditions

• Cashless treatment is available only for approved procedures.
• Treatment must be taken in empanelled hospitals.
• The package amount is directly settled between the Trust/Insurance Company and the hospital.
• Beneficiaries should carry valid identification while visiting the hospital.
• Pre-authorisation is mandatory for most planned procedures.
• Emergency treatment is handled according to scheme guidelines.
