Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview
Telangana Government launched the much-awaited Telangana Indiramma Indlu Scheme to provide permanent housing support to poor, homeless and landless families of the state. The scheme is one of the six major guarantees announced during the 2023 Telangana Assembly Elections by the Congress government. Under this housing scheme, eligible beneficiaries who already own land will receive financial assistance of Rs. 5 lakh for house construction, whereas homeless families without land will receive both a free house site and financial assistance for building a house. Telangana movement activists and fighters are also eligible to receive 250 square yards of land under the scheme.
The main objective of the Telangana Indiramma Housing Scheme is to help economically weaker families fulfil their dream of owning a permanent concrete house. The government has conducted a large-scale beneficiary survey through the Indiramma App and identified more than 18 lakh eligible applicants across Telangana. The beneficiary list was released online on the official portal for public verification. The benefits under the scheme are being distributed phase-wise, and in the first phase, around 3,500 houses are being sanctioned in each assembly constituency.
The Telangana Government has also announced that the second phase of the Indiramma Indlu Scheme is expected to start from June 2, 2026. Under the upcoming phase, more eligible homeless and poor families are likely to receive housing sanction, land allotment and financial support for the construction of houses. The government has clarified that houses under the second phase will be constructed within a radius of around 5 to 8 kilometres from the existing residential areas of poor families so that their livelihood and employment opportunities are not affected. The government observed that many beneficiaries of previous double-bedroom housing projects located far away from cities faced livelihood and transportation difficulties.
Telangana Government is also identifying government lands, slum areas, Bhoodan lands and dilapidated housing colonies within the same constituency for the construction of Indiramma houses. A special drive is being conducted for the allotment of completed and under-construction double-bedroom houses to eligible beneficiaries. Eligible beneficiaries having house sites within Hyderabad limits are also expected to receive sanction letters soon. The government clarified that poverty is the main eligibility criterion and every eligible poor family will be considered without political discrimination.
Eligible applicants can submit their application through Praja Palana Centres, Gram Panchayat Offices, Municipal Offices and other designated centres. The government has also developed a dedicated online portal for beneficiary services, application status and scheme-related updates. Apart from this, the government also runs the Gruha Lakshmi Scheme, providing financial assistance of Rs 3 lakh for house construction.

Payment to Beneficiaries

Eligibility Requirements
- Applicant should belong to a Below Poverty Line (BPL) family.
- Eligibility of BPL families will be determined based on the Food Security Card.
- The beneficiary should either own a house site or have received a site allotment from the Government.
- Applicant should be a resident of the concerned Village or Urban Local Body (ULB) area.
- Families living in huts, thatched or semi-permanent houses are eligible under the scheme.
- Households living in houses with mud walls, AC sheets or tiled roofs can apply.
- Families living in rented houses are also eligible to receive scheme benefits.
- Single women and widowers will also be considered under the scheme.

Steps to Apply

- After successful submission of the application form, applicants will receive confirmation through SMS on the registered mobile number.

- Applicants found eligible after verification will receive benefits under the scheme.
- Application status can be checked online through the Praja Palana Portal using the application number.

We had initially applied for a 2BHK house back in 2016, but unfortunately, we did not receive any allotment. More recently, we applied under the Indiramma Housing Scheme. A survey was conducted at our residence, and we were pleased to see our name listed in the L2 list. However, since then, we have not received any updates or further communication regarding the status of our application.
Our family has been living in a rented house for the past 15 years, and we are currently facing severe financial difficulties. Due to our economic condition, we are unable to construct a house on our own.
