New Unemployment Assistance Scheme Announced

The present Tamil Nadu Government has announced a new "Youth Unemployment Assistance Scheme" in its election manifesto for educated unemployed youth across the state. Under the proposed welfare initiative, graduates may receive Rs. 4,000/- per month as unemployment assistance, while diploma holders may receive Rs. 2,500/- per month. On an annual basis, eligible graduates may receive up to Rs. 48,000/- and diploma holders may receive up to Rs. 30,000/- as financial support. The newly proposed scheme currently mentions benefits only for diploma holders and graduates, unlike the previous Unemployment Assistance Scheme, offering benefits to SSLC and Higher Secondary passed candidates under separate categories.

The newly announced unemployment assistance programme will replace the existing scheme after official implementation and is expected to provide significantly higher financial support to job-seeking youth in the state. However, the government has not yet officially launched the scheme or released detailed eligibility, registration, and application guidelines.

Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

• Tamil Nadu Government started the Unemployment Assistance Scheme for the welfare of unemployed youth of the state.
• Unemployment Assistance Scheme provides monthly financial assistance to youth of weaker sections to support their job search requirements, so that they can get the right job according to their qualification.
• Tamil Nadu Unemployment Assistance Scheme was started in 2006 to reduce the hardship of people who are searching job in various sectors.
• Scheme is implemented in the state by Department of Employment and Training, Tamil Nadu.
• The state has transformed employment exchange as Career Centres by forming District Employment and Coaching cum Guidance Centres in every district.
• State is providing a platform for job seekers and employers to connect through District Employment and Coaching cum Guidance Centres.
• Scheme is providing great help to differently abled persons by providing them financial assistance as well as guidance for job placement.
• Applicant need to exist in live register of employment office to avail benefits of scheme.
• Applicant have to renew his registration in employment office every three year and renewal should be done within three months from due date.
• Differently abled persons need not have to renew their registration in employment exchange office.
• The benefits of scheme can be availed by applying personally along with application form at employment office or at e-service centres with needed documents.
• Assistance will be discontinued if the registered applicant gets a job during the grant period.
• Every year self declaration about unemployment is must by the applicant to avail the benefit.

Steps to Apply

• The only way to apply for Tamil Nadu Unemployment Assistance Scheme is through Application Form.
• The Applicant can obtain the Application Form from the Employment Exchange Center of his district.
• The details asked in the Application Form have to be filled correctly and the following documents have to be attached as per the requirement :-
  • Any one of the Identification Proof :- Aadhar Card/ Pan Card/ Voter ID/ Passport/Driving License/ Ration Card.
  • Domicile of Tamil Nadu.
  • Passport Size Photo.
  • Email ID
  • Mobile Number.
  • Bank Account Details.

• The Applicant will have to submit the Application Form and the attached documents to the Employment Exchange Center of his district.
• The application will be thoroughly scrutinized and if found correct, the amount of allowance per month will be transferred to the applicant's account.

How to Apply for Employment Exchange Registration

• Applicant can apply for Employment Exchange Registration through Tamil Nadu's Department of Employment and Training Portal.
• The Applicant has to Register himself first.
• Following details have to be filled for registration :-
  • Name of the Applicant.
  • Date of Birth.
  • Father's Name.
  • District.
  • Email Id.
  • Mobile Number.
  • User ID.
  • Password.
• After filling all the details click on Register.
• Now Login with your User ID and Password.
• After Login, fill the details asked in the following 4 steps :-
  • Personal Details.
  • Contact Details.
  • Qualification Details.
  • Skill Details.
• After filling all the details correctly, click on submit.
• On clicking submit, the Applicant successfully registered and the Employment Exchange Registration Number will be generated by the portal.

Features of the Scheme

• The registered youth can also avail coaching and guidance from District Employment and Coaching cum Guidance Centres.
• Applicant can also register themselves for Skill Training Programmes.
• Applicant can be placed in private sector jobs through Job fairs held at District Employment and coaching cum Guidance centres.
• Applicant can get guidance from self-employment programmes conducted on every Thursday at District Employment and coaching cum Guidance centres.
• The financial assistance shall be given for three consecutive years to General Candidates.
• The financial assistance amount is given for ten consecutive years to physically disabled candidates.
