Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview
The Delhi Mukhyamantri Khel Protsahan Yojana, officially known as the Mukhyamantri Khel Prothsahan Yojana, is a Delhi Government initiative that provides financial and training support to eligible sportspersons. The scheme aims to help athletes develop their sporting skills, access better training facilities, participate in major competitions and achieve higher levels of performance. It also recognises sporting achievements by providing cash incentives to eligible players who perform well in recognised competitions. The approach mirrors how the Delhi Government backs young talent in other fields, as it does through the Delhi Talent Hunt Hauslon Ki Udaan Scheme, which gives performers and artists a platform and cash rewards of their own.
The Delhi Mukhyamantri Khel Protsahan Yojana covers five support categories: School Sportsperson Training Support, Elite Training Support, Participation Support, Achievement Recognition and Grassroots Training Support. These categories aim to support school-level athletes, high-performing sportspersons, young athletes training at government sports centres and players seeking assistance for international competitions or recognition for their sporting achievements. The type and amount of assistance depend on the applicable component, the applicant's eligibility and the conditions prescribed by the Delhi Government.
Under Participation Support, eligible sportspersons can receive reimbursement of up to ₹2 lakh for approved travel, lodging, boarding and tournament fees for qualifying international tournaments. Applicants must satisfy the prescribed conditions, including at least 3 years of Delhi residence, and cannot receive support for more than one tournament in a financial year under this component. They must also submit the required participation proof, expense documents and other supporting records.
Through Elite Training Support and School Sportsperson Training Support, the scheme helps eligible athletes meet their training requirements and improve their performance. Achievement Recognition provides cash incentives for qualifying sports achievements, subject to the competition category and applicable rules. The government determines the assistance according to the relevant component and notification, so applicants should verify the approved amount and conditions before applying.
Sportspersons interested in the Delhi Mukhyamantri Khel Protsahan Yojana can check the eligibility criteria, benefits, required documents, application process and important dates through the official scheme portal. Depending on the component, applicants may need to complete an online application and submit a printed, signed copy with supporting documents to the Sports Branch, Directorate of Education, Delhi. Applicants should follow the latest notification for the relevant component because application windows and submission requirements may differ.
In October 2026 the Delhi Government approved Rs 9.75 crore in assistance for 123 sportspersons across the elite and school levels, released in phases against verified bank accounts and expenditure records, and widened the list of sporting disciplines covered to include both traditional and modern games. Delhi Mukhyamantri Khel Protsahan Yojana applications are invited afresh each year through the Directorate of Education's sports portal. Sportspersons must apply online and then submit a signed printout with supporting documents at the Sports Branch. Selection is made on the recommendations of a Committee of Experts constituted under the scheme.
