Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

• With the upcoming Kerala Vidhan Sabha Election 2026, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has released its election manifesto for the state.
• The manifesto, titled "Vikasita Keralam" (Viksit Keralam), was unveiled on March 31, 2026, by BJP National President Nitin Nabin.
• The manifesto outlines a vision for 2026-31, built on five foundational pillars: investment and job revolution, improving quality of life for every Malayali, human safety and resilience, good governance, and human security.
• Among the welfare promises in the manifesto, the BJP has pledged to provide two free LPG cylinders every year to poor families in Kerala.
• The cylinders will be distributed on the occasion of Onam and Christmas, two of the most widely celebrated festivals in Kerala, one cylinder on each occasion.
• This promise is aimed at reducing the financial burden on economically weaker households, where cooking fuel is a significant recurring expense.
• LPG prices have remained a concern for poor and BPL households, and this initiative seeks to provide direct relief by ensuring at least two cylinders are available free of cost annually on festive occasions.

Scheme Benefits

Steps to Apply

• After verification of eligibility, the free LPG cylinders will be provided to eligible households during Onam and Christmas each year.
• However, It is anticipated that the benefit may be delivered as a Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) directly into the beneficiary's Aadhaar linked bank account on the respective festive days (Onam and Christmas).
• Beneficiaries can then use this amount to purchase an LPG cylinder from their nearest authorised distributor. This mode is subject to official confirmation upon formal launch of the scheme.
