Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview
The Government of Madhya Pradesh has introduced a new initiative called the Shiksha Ghar Yojana to reconnect students who have dropped out of school with education. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav gave in-principle approval to the scheme during a review meeting of the School Education Department held on 21 May 2026. During the meeting, the Chief Minister said that students in the state who have discontinued their high school or higher secondary education for any reason would be given an opportunity to resume their studies and appear for and pass the High School (Class 10) and Higher Secondary (Class 12) examinations.
The government has introduced this scheme because many adolescents and young people are unable to complete their school education due to financial, family-related, or other circumstances. Not completing board examinations can limit their opportunities for further education, skill training, and employment. The objective of this scheme is to provide such students with a second opportunity and help them return to mainstream education. The Shiksha Ghar Scheme will work on a model under which students who have dropped out of school will be allowed to complete their board examinations through the Madhya Pradesh State Open School Education Board (MPSOS)
Shiksha Ghar Scheme will cover the entire state of MP, including all Gram Panchayats and urban local bodies. The responsibility for implementing the scheme has been assigned to the MPSOS. According to the official MP State Open School Education Board website, the board is an autonomous institution established to provide alternative education in the state and is associated with the School Education Department, Government of Madhya Pradesh. After the meeting, the School Education Department was directed to make preparations to implement the scheme from the current academic session.
Apart from the Madhya Pradesh Shiksha Ghar Yojana, the state government is also running the Mukhyamantri Kaushal Samvardhan Yojana, which provides free short-term employment-oriented skill training to the youth of the state, and the Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Medhavi Vidyarthi Puraskar Yojana, which gives cash awards to meritorious Scheduled Caste students securing the highest marks in Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations at the state level.
