Need for Fisheries Development and Employment Opportunities in Jalpaiguri, Maynaguri, and Siliguri Region

The regions of Jalpaiguri, Maynaguri, and Siliguri have very good potential for fisheries development due to the presence of the Teesta River and many nearby water bodies, ponds, canals, and wetlands. Despite having such rich water resources, the fisheries sector in this region is still very limited and underdeveloped. I am a Bachelor of Fishery Science student, but it is very difficult to find fisheries-related job opportunities in our area. Many students from fisheries backgrounds are forced to go outside the state in search of employment and better career opportunities. There is strong scope for fish farming, hatcheries, ornamental fisheries, fish processing units, cold storage facilities, and fish-based industries in this region. If proper awareness programs, government schemes, training programs, and fisheries infrastructure are introduced, it can create employment for local youth and improve the livelihood of farmers and fishers. I kindly request the concerned authorities to take initiatives for establishing fisheries processing plants, conducting awareness and skill development programs, and implementing fisheries schemes in Jalpaiguri, Maynaguri, and Siliguri regions for the development of the fisheries sector and employment generation.
