Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

The Government of Jharkhand has launched the Jharkhand Rajya Vidhwa Punarvivah Protsahan Yojana to promote the social and economic empowerment of widowed women. For the implementation of this scheme, the State Government made a budget provision of ₹1 crore during the financial year 2023-24. Under the scheme, an eligible widowed woman who remarries is provided a one-time incentive amount of ₹2 lakh, which is transferred directly to her bank account through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.

A large number of widowed women in Jharkhand face social, economic, and family-related challenges. To encourage a positive social attitude toward widow remarriage and provide widowed women with an opportunity to live a dignified life, the Government introduced this scheme. The Government believes that financial assistance will help increase the confidence and self-esteem of widowed women and enable them to begin a new phase of life with greater security and independence.

One of the major objectives of the scheme is to promote widow remarriage and encourage progressive social thinking. Under this scheme, an eligible woman receives financial assistance of ₹2 lakh after remarriage, provided that she is a resident of Jharkhand, the marriage is legally registered, and the application is submitted within one year from the date of remarriage. Implemented by the Women, Child Development and Social Security Department, this scheme not only provides financial support to widowed women but also helps integrate them into mainstream society.

The state government is also running several other schemes for the social and economic empowerment of women, adolescent girls, and vulnerable sections of society. Eligible beneficiaries can avail monthly financial assistance under the Jharkhand Mukhyamantri Maiyya Samman Yojana, development-related facilities for women and adolescent girls through the Jharkhand Mahila Evam Kishori Kalyan Yojana, health security benefits under the Jharkhand Mukhyamantri Abua Swasthya Suraksha Yojana, and support to make women self-reliant under the Jharkhand Mukhyamantri Bahan-Beti Swavalambhan Protsahan Yojana. Eligibility Requirements

• The applicant must be a permanent resident of Jharkhand.
• The applicant must be a widowed woman who has remarried.
• The woman must be of legal marriageable age at the time of remarriage.
• A death certificate of the deceased husband must be available.
• A marriage registration certificate of the remarriage must be available.
• The applicant must possess an Aadhaar Card.
• The application must be submitted within one year from the date of remarriage.
• After remarriage, the husband should not be a permanent employee of the Central Government, State Government, or any Public Sector Undertaking (PSU), and should not be an income taxpayer or a government pensioner.

Selection Process

• Beneficiaries are selected by a District Level Committee (DLC).
• The committee is headed by the Chief Development Officer (CDO).
• Eligible applicants are recommended for approval based on the scheme guidelines.
  After approval by the competent authority, the incentive amount is released through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

Steps to Apply

• First, obtain the application form for Jharkhand State Widow Remarriage Incentive Scheme from the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) office of your district.
• Carefully fill in the application form with the applicant's name, address, Aadhaar number, bank account details, and information related to the remarriage.
• Attach all the required documents along with the application form such as Aadhaar card, residence certificate, death certificate of the deceased husband, marriage registration certificate, copy of bank passbook, etc.
• After verifying all the information, submit the application form to the concerned CDPO office.
• After receiving the application, the documents and eligibility will be verified by the department.
• The applicant and the information related to the remarriage will be verified by the Female Supervisor.
• After the verification is complete, the application will be sent to the District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO) for approval.
• If found eligible, the application will be approved.
• After receiving the approval, the incentive amount of ₹2 lakh will be transferred directly to the beneficiary woman's bank account through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer).
