Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

The Telangana Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, approved the Employees Accident Insurance Scheme on February 23, 2026. The scheme was later formally announced in the State Budget 2026-27, presented by Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on March 20, 2026.

This is described as the first scheme of its kind in the country. It provides comprehensive accident insurance coverage to all government employees and pensioners in Telangana at zero cost to the beneficiaries. The scheme runs through banks, placing no direct financial burden on the employees, pensioners, or the state exchequer.

Under the scheme, the family of a government employee or pensioner who dies in an accident receives a compensation of Rs 1.20 crore. For employees who pass away due to natural causes before the age of 60, the scheme provides a Rs 10 lakh term life insurance cover. In the event of death in an air accident, the compensation amount rises to Rs 2 crore.

The scheme covers 5.19 lakh regular government employees and 2.38 lakh pensioners, totalling 7.57 lakh beneficiaries across the state. The Telangana Government approved this scheme alongside the Cashless Employee Health Scheme in the same Cabinet meeting, reinforcing its commitment to the welfare of its workforce.

The application process for the Telangana Employees Accident Insurance Scheme will be announced after the scheme officially launches.

  • Check eligibility – Confirm that you are a serving Telangana government employee or a pensioner. The scheme automatically covers all 7.57 lakh eligible beneficiaries, so a separate registration may not be needed.
  • Keep documents ready – Make sure your Aadhaar card, employee ID or pension payment order, and bank account details are up to date and error-free.
  • Visit your bank or department office – Since the scheme runs through banks, visit your salary or pension-disbursing bank to confirm your enrolment. Your HR or pension office may also handle this directly.
  • Update your nominee details – Ensure your bank account and service records have an active and updated nominee. The compensation amount goes directly to the nominee.
  • File a claim when needed – In case of accidental death, the nominee or family member must approach the bank or designated authority with the death certificate, accident report, and bank details to receive the compensation.
