Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

The West Bengal Manabik Pension Scheme is a social welfare pension scheme launched by the Government of West Bengal in 2018 for disabled and specially-abled persons who are financially weak and unable to earn a stable livelihood because of physical or mental disability. The scheme provides monthly financial assistance to eligible disabled beneficiaries so they can manage their daily expenses and live with greater financial security. The Manabik Pension Scheme is also widely known as the West Bengal Disability Pension Scheme because it specifically supports persons with disabilities across the state.

Initially, the Manabik Pension Scheme required applicants to have 50% or more disability for eligibility. However, according to the revised government notification issued in 2020 after the merger of schemes, the disability eligibility requirement was reduced to 40% or above. The state government also removed the earlier annual family income restriction of Rs. 1,00,000/- per year for beneficiaries under the scheme. 

Earlier, beneficiaries under the Manabik Pension Scheme received a monthly pension of Rs. 1,000/-. The Government of West Bengal has revised the pension amount to Rs. 1,500/- per month for eligible persons with disabilities. The enhanced pension will come into effect from 01 August 2026, and the assistance will continue to be disbursed directly into the beneficiaries' bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.

The Manabik Pension Scheme functions under the Jai Bangla Scheme, which acts as an umbrella platform for several pension schemes operated by the Government of West Bengal. The scheme is intended for disabled persons belonging to economically weaker families who satisfy the prescribed disability, income, and residency conditions. Applicants whose annual family income exceeds the prescribed limit are not eligible for pension assistance under the scheme.

Eligible applicants can apply for benefits under the Manabik Pension Scheme by submitting the prescribed application form along with the required supporting documents. The concerned authorities examine the application and verify the submitted documents before sanctioning the pension. Once approved, the monthly pension is transferred directly to the beneficiary's bank account.

• Disabled or specially-abled persons having 40% or more disability are eligible under the scheme.
• The applicant should possess a valid Disability Certificate issued by the competent authority.
• Applicants already receiving benefits under other government pension schemes may not be eligible under the scheme.

Steps to Apply

Step 1: Obtain the Application Form

Eligible disabled beneficiaries should collect the West Bengal Manabik Pension Scheme application form free of cost from the concerned government office.

• Block Development Officer (BDO) Office.
• Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Office.
• Kolkata Municipal Commissioner's Office.

Step 2: Fill in the Application Form Carefully

Applicants should carefully enter all required personal, disability, address, income, and bank account details in the application form.

Step 3: Attach Supporting Documents

Attach all mandatory documents, including Aadhaar Card, Disability Certificate, Digital Ration Card, Income Certificate, and Bank Passbook copy.

Step 4: Submit the Application Form

Submit the completed application form along with all required documents to the same office from which the application form was collected.

Step 5: Verification of Documents

The concerned department officials will verify the application form and scrutinise all submitted documents to confirm eligibility under the scheme.

Step 6: Approval of Pension Benefits

After successful verification, the application is approved by the competent authority for pension benefits.

Step 7: Receive Monthly Pension Amount

After approval, the monthly pension amount is directly transferred to the beneficiary's bank account.

How to Track Manabik Pension Scheme Application Status?

• Visit the WB Samarth Portal.
• Click on the "Track Applicant Status" option available on the homepage.
• Select Manabik Pension Scheme from the list of available schemes.
• Choose a search option such as Beneficiary ID, Mobile Number, or Aadhaar Number.
• Enter the details based on the search option you selected.
• Fill in the CAPTCHA code displayed on the screen.
• Click on the "Search" button.
• The current status of your Manabik Pension Scheme application will appear on the screen.
