Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

• The Tripura Government introduced the Chief Minister's Annual State Award for Academic Excellence in 2018 to motivate students to perform better academically by integrating modern technology into learning.
• Through this initiative, the government actively recognises and rewards the hard work of meritorious students across the state.
• The Directorate of Secondary Education, Tripura implements this scheme.
• Under the program, topper students of Class 10th and Class 12th who pass their board examinations through TBSE or CBSE receive free Apple iPads/ Tablets as a mark of achievement.
• The government distributes tablets separately to eligible toppers from both classes.
• To widen the scheme's reach, the state selects students under multiple merit-based and social categories.
• Along with the 5 overall toppers, the government also selects 5 toppers from each of the following groups: girls, ST, SC, OBC, and religious minorities for tablet distribution.
• The scheme further rewards the highest scorers in 23 Class 10th subjects, including Statistics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, History, Geography, Political Science, Economics, Accountancy, Business Studies, Psychology, Sociology, English, Hindi, Bengali, Sanskrit, Kokborok, Philosophy, Education, Music, Home Science, and Nutrition.
• On 26 August 2025, Tripura Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha attended the award distribution ceremony and personally handed over tablets to 5 students.
• During the same event, the government selected 228 students to receive free Apple iPads/ Tablets under this scheme.
• Students do not need to submit an application.
• The District Education Officer prepares the list of topper students and sends it to the Directorate of Secondary Education for approval and distribution.

Scheme Benefits

• The Tripura Government provides tablets and iPads completely free of cost under this scheme.
• Every selected topper from Class 10th and Class 12th receives a brand-new Apple iPad/ Tablet as a reward for academic excellence.

Eligibility Requirements

• Only permanent residents of Tripura qualify for this award.
• Students must secure top positions in Class 10th or Class 12th board examinations conducted by TBSE or CBSE.
• The government selects students purely on merit, based on their board results.
• From each class (Class 10th and Class 12th), the authorities choose students in the following categories :-
  • 5 overall topper students.
  • 5 highest-scoring girl students.
  • 5 top-scoring ST students.
  • 5 top-scoring SC students.
  • 5 top-scoring students from religious minority communities.
  • 5 top-scoring OBC students.
• In addition, the government also recognises the highest scorer in each of the 23 subjects of Class 10th.
• To remain eligible, the topper student must study in one of these institutions :-
  • Government Schools.
  • Government-Aided Schools.
  • Vidyajoti Schools.
• Only students meeting all these conditions receive consideration for the award.

Steps to Apply

• Students do not need to submit a separate application for the Tripura Government's Chief Minister Annual State Award for Academic Excellence.
• After the declaration of Class 10 and Class 12 board results, the District Education Officer prepares a merit list of topper students.
• The officer then sends this list to the Directorate of Secondary Education for final approval.
• Based on the final list of eligible students, the Directorate arranges the required number of Apple iPads/ Tablets.
• The department later hosts a public award ceremony for the distribution of the Apple iPads or Tablets under the CM Annual State Award for Academic Excellence of the Tripura Government.
• Selected students must attend the function with the necessary documents.
• During the event, the Tripura Government hands over state-of-the-art Apple iPads/Tablets to meritorious students under the Chief Minister's Annual State Award for Academic Excellence.
