Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview
- In 2025, the Bihar Government introduced several welfare initiatives for the residents of the state.
- One of the direct benefit transfer schemes launched earlier was the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana, under which women receive Rs. 10,000 as financial assistance to start a business.
- Recently, the government announced another important initiative named the Chief Minister Fellowship Scheme, also known as Mukhyamantri Fellowship Yojana.
- The Bihar Cabinet approved the Mukhyamantri Fellowship Yojana for students on 09 September 2025.
- Through this scheme, the government aims to give students hands-on exposure to governance by allowing them to work directly with government departments and gain real-time administrative experience.
- The General Administration Department ofthe Bihar Government, in collaboration with IIM Bodh Gaya, will implement this fellowship programme.
- Under the scheme, the state government will select 121 experienced fellows and place them in various government departments to support officials in their day-to-day work.
- The department in which the selected fellowship will get the posting are :-
- CM Secretariat. (Stipend of Rs. 1,50,000/-)
- Deputy CM Office. (Stipend of Rs. 1,50,000/-)
- Chief Secretary's Office. (Stipend of Rs. 1,25,000/-)
- Development Commissioner's Office. (Stipend of Rs. 1,25,000/-)
- Secretariat Department. (Stipend of Rs. 1,00,000/-)
- Divisional Commissioner's Office. (Stipend of Rs. 80,000/-)
- District Collector's Office. (Stipend of Rs. 80,000/-)
- Municipal Corporation Commissioner's Office. (Stipend of Rs. 80,000/-)
- Selected fellows will receive a monthly stipend between Rs. 80,000 and Rs. 1,50,000, depending on their professional experience.
- The fellowship tenure is two years from the date of joining under this scheme.
- Along with departmental work, fellows will also undergo specialised training at IIM Bodh Gaya.
- After completing the fellowship and training successfully, IIM Bodh Gaya will issue an official certification to the participants.
- The Chief Minister Fellowship Scheme is open only to post-graduate candidates who possess professional experience ranging from 3 years to more than 10 years.
- To ensure smooth execution of the programme, the Bihar Government has allocated over Rs. 31 crore for this scheme.
- The online application process for the Bihar Government's Mukhyamantri Fellowship Scheme has already begun, and eligible candidates can submit their applications through the official website of IIM Bodh Gaya.
- Chief Minister Fellowship Scheme Online Application last date is 31-01-2026, and applications will be filled in 4 cycles which are mentioned below :-
- Cycle 1 Application Deadline is 17-12-2025 and Tentative Interview Date is 27 or 28-12-2025.
- Cycle 2 Application Deadline is 31-12-2025 and Tentative Interview Date is 10 or 11-01-2025.
- Cycle 3 Application Deadline is 15-01-2026 and Tentative Interview Date is 24 or 25-01-2026.
- Cycle 4 Application Deadline is 31-01-2026 and Tentative Interview Date is 07 or 08-02-2026.

Scheme Benefits
- A total of 121 candidates will be chosen under the fellowship programme.
- The duration of the fellowship will be two years.
- Selected fellows will be assigned roles in various government departments.
- Fellows will receive a monthly stipend ranging between Rs. 80,000/- and Rs. 1,50,000/-.
- Professional training will be provided by IIM Bodh Gaya.
- After successful completion of the fellowship, participants will be awarded a certificate by IIM Bodh Gaya.
Eligibility Requirement
- Applicant must be a permanent resident of Bihar.
- The candidate should have completed post-graduation with at least 55% marks in any of the following disciplines :-
- Management.
- Policy Studies.
- Development Studies.
- Regional Planning.
- Public Administration.
- Science and Technology.
- Related / Allied Subjects.
- Applicants must possess a valid scorecard of CAT, GMAT, GRE, GATE, UGC-NET, or CSIR-NET.
- However, candidates who have finished their master's degree from Institutions of National Importance, Central Universities, or National Law Universities are exempted from submitting these test scores.

Steps to Apply
- Eligible students can submit their application for the Bihar Government's Chief Minister Fellowship Scheme by using the online application facility.
- Chief Minister Fellowship Scheme Online Application is hosted on the official website of the IIM, Bodh Gaya.
- Applicants need to visit the website and choose "Chief Minister's Fellowship Scheme (CMFS) 2026" from the Events & Notifications section.
- First, the applicant must complete new registration on the portal by entering the Name, Email Address and Password.
- After registration, verify the email ID and log in using the registered email address and the selected password.
- Once logged in, a new page will display key details such as the last date to apply, eligibility conditions, and the selection process.
- Go through the instructions carefully and then click on "Start New Application."
- The Chief Minister Fellowship Scheme Application Process is completed in five steps i.e. :-
- Personal Details.
- Academic Qualification.
- Work Experience.
- Document Upload.
- Declaration and Submission.
- Enter all mandatory information in the Online Application Form of the Chief Minister's Fellowship Scheme of the Bihar Government.
- Review the filled details carefully and submit the form.
- IIM Bodh Gaya officials will examine the submitted application and the uploaded documents.
- Based on this scrutiny, shortlisted candidates will receive an invitation for an online personal interview.
- Students who clear the interview round and receive final selection under the Mukhyamantri Fellowship Yojana, alias Chief Minister Fellowship Scheme, will get the opportunity to work closely with various Bihar Government departments.
- Applicants can track their CM Fellowship Scheme application status through the Application List section on the portal.
