Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview
Do you know that the Government of Bihar provides a grant ranging from ₹1 lakh to ₹3 lakh to encourage the marriage of persons with disabilities? If, in a marriage, either the husband or the wife has a disability of 40% or more, the benefit of this scheme can be availed as per eligibility. Further, if both the husband and wife are disabled, there is a provision for higher assistance. Not only this, if both are disabled and their marriage is also inter-caste, the government provides an incentive amount of up to ₹3 lakh under the scheme.
The Mukhyamantri Nishaktjan Vivah Protsahan Anudan Yojana is an important social security scheme of the Government of Bihar, whose objective is not only to provide financial assistance at the time of marriage, but also to help persons with disabilities begin a dignified and self-reliant married life. Under the scheme, the minimum age of the woman has been fixed at 18 years and the minimum age of the man at 21 years. Also, to receive the benefit, the disability of the concerned person must be at least 40 percent.
A special feature of this scheme is that the government does not give the grant amount directly as cash for spending. The approved amount is deposited in the name of the beneficiary as a Fixed Deposit for a period of 3 years. On completion of three years, the beneficiary receives the principal amount along with the interest accrued on it. The purpose of this arrangement is to ensure financial security not only immediately after marriage, but also for the future life ahead.
Application for the scheme is made through a prescribed form, while the process of registration, verification, approval and payment of the application is carried out through the e-Suvidha portal of the Government of Bihar. After examination of the documents of eligible applicants, the application is approved by the competent authority, and thereafter the grant amount is approved as per the prescribed process.
Objectives of the Scheme
The main objectives of this scheme are as follows-
- To provide financial assistance for marriage to eligible women and men with 40% or more disability.

- To promote the social and economic empowerment of persons with disabilities.
- To encourage such marriages in which either the husband or wife, or both, are disabled. To also provide encouragement for inter-caste marriages of persons with disabilities in eligible cases.
- To provide financial security for the future to the beneficiary by keeping the grant amount safe in the form of a 3-year Fixed Deposit (FD).
- To include persons with disabilities respectfully into the mainstream of society and to develop a positive social environment towards them.
Scheme Benefits
Under the scheme, eligible beneficiaries are provided a marriage incentive grant as per their eligibility. The assistance amount is not given directly as a cash payment, but is deposited in the name of the beneficiary as a Fixed Deposit (FD) for a period of 3 years.
