Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

• Rani Durgawati Yojana was introduced by the Government of Chhattisgarh as part of the Budget for the financial year 2026-2027.
• The state administration has indicated that the scheme will be rolled out within the same financial year.
• Its core purpose is to ensure long-term financial protection for newborn girls and to help families manage future expenses related to higher education and marriage.
• The responsibility for executing and supervising the scheme has been assigned to the Women and Child Development Department.
• At the time of a girl child's birth, the government plans to issue a Monetary Assurance Certificate in her name as proof of enrolment under the scheme.
• Registration of the newborn is expected to take place soon after her birth, as per the framework that will be formally notified.
• Under this initiative, a financial benefit of Rs. 1,50,000 will be made available to the girl once she completes 18 years of age.
• This amount can be claimed only after the beneficiary attains adulthood.
• The funds may then be used either to pursue higher education or to meet marriage-related expenses, depending on the family's needs.
• All newborn girls in the state are likely to qualify for registration, subject to the detailed guidelines that will be issued during the official launch.
• As of now, the government has not released a comprehensive outline of the application procedure.
• If the enrolment process is conducted offline, parents may be able to collect the prescribed form from their nearest Anganwadi Centre or from the District Office of the Women and Child Development Department.
• Alternatively, if the system is made digital, a dedicated online portal could be introduced to enable registration through the internet.
• Until complete operational guidelines are published, families seeking clarification can approach the nearest Anganwadi Centre or the concerned district office for assistance.
• To ensure effective implementation, the Chhattisgarh Government has earmarked Rs. 15 crore in the state budget for this scheme.

• Mothers of newborn girl child can also enrol themselves under the "Mahtari Vandan Scheme" in which monthly financial assistance will be provided by the Chhattisgarh Government.

Scheme Benefits

• Families belonging to the BPL Category will get the following benefits under the Rani Durgawati Yojana of the Chhattisgarh Government :-
  • Financial Assurance Certificate will be provided on the Birth of a Girl Child.
  • Rs. 1,50,000/- Assurance Certificate will be provided in the name of the Girl Child.
  • A girl child can claim this amount on attaining the Age of 18 Years.
  • Financial Assistance can be used for Higher Education or for Marriage Expenses.

Eligibility Requirements

• Rani Durgawati Yojana benefits will only be provided to those beneficiaries who fulfil the following eligibility conditions set by Gthe overnment of Chhattisgarh :-
  • The beneficiary should be a Permanent Resident of Chhattisgarh.
  • The beneficiary should belong to the BPL Category.
  • The beneficiary should have a BPL Card/ BPL Ration Card.
  • Benefits will only be applicable for the birth of a Girl Child.
  • Remaining Eligibility Conditions will be released with the Official Guidelines.

  • Birth Certificate of Girl.

Steps to Apply

• The Government of Chhattisgarh tabled its Budget for the financial year 2026-2027 in the State Assembly on 24 February 2026.
