Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

Gujarat Namo Saraswati Vigyan Sadhana Yojana is a financial assistance scheme for students who pursue the Science stream in higher secondary education. The Government of Gujarat introduced the scheme to encourage more talented students to choose Science after Class 10 and continue their education up to Class 12. The scheme is being implemented from the academic year 2024-25 under the Education Department of Gujarat.

Under the Namo Saraswati Vigyan Sadhana Yojana, eligible students receive total financial assistance of Rs. 25,000/- for Class 11 and Class 12. Students receive Rs. 10,000/- during Class 11 and Rs. 15,000/- during Class 12. During the two academic years, Rs. 20,000/- is paid at the rate of Rs. 1,000/- per month for 10 months in each year, while the remaining Rs. 5,000/- becomes payable after the student passes the Class 12 board examination.

The Gujarat Government has continued its focus on supporting Science education through the Namo Saraswati Vigyan Sadhana Yojana. In the Gujarat Budget 2026-27, the government has made a provision of Rs. 250 crore for the scheme. This budgetary provision reflects the state's continued emphasis on encouraging students to pursue the Science stream and supporting their higher secondary education. 

The Namo Saraswati Yojana focuses on students who have secured more than 50% marks in the Class 10 Board Examination and take admission to the Science stream. For the 2025-26 academic year, the prescribed notice states that students from any school can be considered eligible, subject to the applicable conditions. An Income Certificate showing annual family income below Rs. 6 lakh is required where applicable for students who have passed Class 8 from a non-granted school.

The financial assistance provided under the Gujarat Namo Saraswati Scheme is transferred through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). The assistance is deposited into the bank account of the student's mother. If the student's mother is not alive, the assistance is deposited directly into the student's bank account. The scheme also links continued assistance with regular attendance, and students whose average attendance does not remain at 80% in the preceding months can have their assistance discontinued.

The Namo Saraswati Merit Scholarship Scheme aims to reduce the financial burden associated with higher secondary Science education and encourage more students to continue their studies up to Class 12. Students and parents can also explore the Gujarat Namo Lakshmi Yojana, another education-focused financial assistance scheme of the Gujarat Government. The scheme also supports students in building an educational pathway towards higher studies in Science, technology and related fields.

Scheme Benefits

The Namo Saraswati Vigyan Sadhana Yojana provides financial assistance to eligible students pursuing Science stream education in Classes 11 and 12. The scheme supports students throughout their two years of higher secondary Science education and encourages them to continue their studies.

• Eligible students will receive financial assistance during Class 11 and Class 12.
• A total financial assistance of Rs. 25,000/- will be provided to eligible students during the two years.
• Out of the total assistance, Rs. 5,000/- will be provided after the student passes the Class 12 Board Examination.
• The assistance amount will be transferred to the beneficiary through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

Namo Saraswati Vigyan Sadhana Yojana Assistance Details

The total financial assistance of Rs. 25,000/- is provided during Class 11 and Class 12 according to the following payment structure:

Eligibility Requirements

Students must fulfil the conditions prescribed by the Government of Gujarat to receive assistance under the Namo Saraswati Vigyan Sadhana Yojana. The eligibility conditions are based on Class 10 board examination marks, Science stream admission, the type of school in which the student studied Classes 9 and 10, and family income in applicable cases.

• The student must have secured 50% or more marks in the Class 10 board examination.
• The student must take admission to the Science stream in higher secondary education.
• Admission must be in an eligible government, grant-in-aid or recognised self-financed school in Gujarat.
• Students who studied Classes 9 and 10 in government or grant-in-aid secondary schools are eligible, subject to the other prescribed conditions.
• Students who studied both or either of Classes 9 and 10 in a recognised self-financed secondary school are eligible if their family's annual income is Rs. 6 lakh or less.
• The student must continue to fulfil the scheme's conditions during the period of receiving assistance.
• The school must maintain the student's attendance through the Vidya Samiksha Kendra online attendance portal.
• Students whose average attendance in the preceding months is below 80% may have their assistance discontinued.

Attendance Requirement

• Schools are responsible for regularly recording the attendance of beneficiary students on the Vidya Samiksha Kendra online attendance portal.
• Education Department officials may conduct surprise inspections to verify student attendance.
• If a student's average attendance in the preceding months is not maintained at 80%, the financial assistance can be stopped.

Rules for Students Who Leave School

• If a student leaves school during the course of study for any reason, the student will not be eligible for the remaining assistance.
• The assistance already paid to the student will not be recovered in such a case.

Rules for Repeater Students

• A repeater student will not receive the assistance for the same class more than once.
• If the student continues the next level of education, assistance can be provided for the next class according to the scheme rules.
• Repeater students (academic year 2024-25) can receive assistance for the relevant class subject to eligibility.

Required Documents

Students applying for the Namo Saraswati Vigyan Sadhana Yojana need to submit the prescribed documents. The documents help the school verify the student's eligibility and process the scholarship assistance.

• Student's Aadhaar Card (both sides).
• Class 10 Marksheet.
• Mother's Aadhaar Card (both sides).
• Father's Aadhaar Card (both sides).
• First page of the mother's bank passbook (the account should be active).
• Income Certificate showing annual family income of Rs. 6 lakh or less - applicable only to students who studied Class 9 and/or Class 10 in a recognised self-financed school.

Steps to Apply

Students do not independently complete the entire application process. The scheme guidelines assign the registration and verification responsibilities primarily to the school and education authorities. Schools register eligible Science stream students in the Child Tracking System and upload the verified eligible student list on the Namo Saraswati portal.

• Students take admission to the Science stream in Class 11 in an eligible higher secondary school.
• The school identifies students who fulfil the eligibility conditions of the Namo Saraswati Vigyan Sadhana Yojana.
• The school registers the eligible Science stream students in the Child Tracking System (CTS) under Vidya Samiksha Kendra.
• The Director, Schools arranges verification of student registration and eligibility through the concerned District Education Officer.
• After verification, the eligible student list is uploaded on the Namo Schemes Portal.
• The school regularly records the attendance of beneficiary students on the Vidya Samiksha Kendra online attendance portal.
• The education authorities process the assistance for eligible students after completion of the required verification.
• The assistance is transferred through DBT to the student's mother's bank account. If the mother is not alive, the assistance is transferred to the student's bank account.

Payment Timeline

• The assistance for June should be deposited into the relevant bank account during June after completion of verification, wherever possible.
• If the June payment cannot be made during June, the June and July assistance can be deposited together by July.
• For the rest of the academic year, that month's instalment is credited by the 10th of the same month.
• Assistance is stopped if a student's average attendance in the preceding months falls below 80%.
• If a student drops out mid-year, the remaining assistance is forfeited, but the student does not need to refund the amount already received.
• A repeater student does not get assistance twice for the same class; they remain eligible for the assistance applicable to whichever class they are currently studying in.
• The final Rs. 5,000/- instalment becomes payable whenever the student passes the Class 12th board exam, even if that happens in a later attempt.

Important Rules Under the Scheme

• The Director, Schools is the implementing authority for the assistance scheme.
• A separate Namo Saraswati portal is to be used for the administration of the scheme.
• Schools are responsible for registering Science stream students in the Child Tracking System.
• Student eligibility is verified through the District Education Officer.
• Assistance is linked with regular attendance, and an average attendance below 80% can result in discontinuation of assistance.
• A student who leaves school during the course of study will not receive the remaining assistance.
• Assistance for the same class is not payable more than once to a repeater student.
• The Class 12 board examination-linked assistance is payable when the student passes the board examination, including cases where the student passes after more than one attempt.
• Benefits under another government scholarship do not prevent a student from receiving the benefit of this scheme.
