Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview
The Government of India provides financial assistance to help children of workers in sectors such as beedi manufacturing, cinema and mining continue their education. One such scholarship is the Financial Assistance for Education to the Wards of Beedi/Cine/IOMC/LSDM Workers – Post-Matric scheme, which supports eligible students after they complete Class 10.
The Post-Matric scholarship covers students studying in Classes XI and XII as well as those pursuing eligible ITI, Polytechnic, Degree and Professional Courses. The annual assistance is ₹3,000 for Classes XI and XII, ₹6,000 for eligible ITI, Polytechnic and specified Degree Courses, and up to ₹25,000 for eligible Professional Courses.
The scholarship is available to eligible children of Beedi, Cine, IOMC, LSDM and Mica workers. Eligible contract workers and covered home-based or Gharkhata workers are also included, subject to the conditions of the scheme. Students must also meet the prescribed requirements relating to family income, previous examination and the educational institution.
This scholarship is the Post-Matric continuation of education support provided under the Labour Welfare Schemes. Students studying in Classes I to X can instead look at the separate Financial Assistance for Education to the Wards of Beedi/Cine/IOMC/LSDM Workers – Pre-Matric scheme. The Pre-Matric scholarship supports school education up to Class X, while the Post-Matric scholarship covers eligible education after Class 10.
The scheme is administered by the Directorate General of Labour Welfare (DGLW) under the Ministry of Labour & Employment through its Labour Welfare Organisation. Students submit their applications through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP), and approved assistance is released through the prescribed Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.
For the 2026-27 academic year, the current NSP schedule shows that applications opened on 1 June 2026 and the student application deadline is 31 October 2026. Students should check the NSP for the latest schedule before applying, as application and verification dates may be revised.
