Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

The Maharashtra Swapnapurti Housing Project Scheme is a newly announced housing initiative launched by the Maharashtra Government under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Urban. The project was inaugurated on 12 July 2026 in Nagpur, when Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari performed the Bhoomipujan (foundation stone laying ceremony). During the event, the Chief Minister announced that the Government would provide free permanent houses to all eligible sanitation workers under the project while also developing affordable housing for other eligible beneficiaries under PMAY-U 2.0. Currently, the project has been launched in Nagpur, and soon it will be implemented in the entire state.

Under the Swapnapurti Scheme, the Government announced the development of two major residential colonies in Nagpur. These include the Swapnapurti Housing Colony, which is being developed under PMAY-U 2.0 for eligible beneficiaries, and the Maharshi Sudarshan Valmiki Vasahat, a dedicated housing colony for eligible sanitation workers. The initiative aims to provide safe, permanent and quality homes while ensuring better living conditions through planned urban development.

According to the Government's announcement, both housing colonies will be equipped with modern civic infrastructure and essential public amenities. These include internal roads, drinking water supply, electricity, drainage facilities, community halls, landscaped gardens, children's play areas and solar power infrastructure. The project is expected to improve the quality of life of beneficiaries by creating well-planned residential communities with all basic facilities.

Apart from the Swapnapurti Housing Project, the Maharashtra Government is already implementing several housing welfare schemes for different sections of society. These include the Modi Awas Gharkul Yojana, Aadim Awas Yojana and Ramai Awas Yojana. The newly announced project further strengthens the Government's efforts to provide safe, dignified and permanent housing to eligible beneficiaries across the state.

The Maharashtra Government has announced the project and completed its Bhoomipujan, but the detailed Government Resolution (GR), beneficiary registration process and application schedule are yet to be released. The Government is expected to issue detailed operational guidelines before applications are invited. Eligibility Requirements

• The applicant should be a permanent resident of Maharashtra.

• The applicant or any family member should not own a pucca house anywhere in India, subject to PMAY-U 2.0 guidelines.
• The applicant should belong to the eligible income category prescribed for the project.
