Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview
West Bengal Mukhyamantri Swasthya Bima Yojana (MMSBY) is a health insurance scheme launched by the Government of West Bengal to provide cashless medical treatment of up to ₹5 lakh per family every year. The scheme was officially launched in the state on 16 August 2026 to provide health insurance protection to eligible permanent residents of West Bengal who are not covered under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY), subject to the prescribed eligibility conditions. Earlier, the Mukhyamantri Swasthya Bima Yojana was known as the Swasthya Sathi Scheme and has been renamed by the current government.
Under the Mukhyamantri Swasthya Bima Yojana, eligible families will receive cashless health insurance coverage of up to ₹5 lakh every year. The MMSBY West Bengal provides treatment at all AB PM-JAY empanelled hospitals, free individual health cards, no restriction on family size under the family floater plan, and coverage for pre-existing diseases from the first day without any waiting period.
The Mukhyamantri Swasthya Yojana has been introduced to reduce the financial burden of hospitalisation and improve access to quality healthcare for eligible residents of West Bengal. By extending cashless treatment through the AB PM-JAY hospital network, beneficiaries will be able to receive medical treatment at empanelled hospitals without paying eligible hospitalisation expenses.
The Mukhyamantri Swasthya Bima Yojana is now operational in West Bengal, and beneficiaries can check their eligibility and scheme status through the official State Health Authority portal. The official process allows beneficiaries to check their applicable scheme and status using their Aadhaar number through the Citizen Services.
For MMSBY, eligible RKSY-1 families are processed through pre-filled forms, field verification by Field-Level Workers (FLWs), followed by digitisation and verification by Extension Officers. Beneficiaries who have a valid Swasthya Sathi URN but whose Aadhaar is not found under the AAY, SPHH, PHH or RKSY1 categories can follow the specified online application process. After OTP authentication, the portal displays family details and eligibility status, and eligible applicants can apply online for MMSBY. The application is then sent for field verification and subsequent digitisation and verification before the final eligibility decision.

Aadhaar-Based Eligibility Check
- Visit the official West Bengal State Health Agency Portal.
- Go to Citizen Services and select PM-JAY Eligibility Check.
- Enter your Aadhaar number as prompted.
- If your Aadhaar is linked to a ration card under the AAY, SPHH or PHH category, the portal will show your AB-PMJAY status, including the card number if already activated.
- If your Aadhaar is linked to a ration card under the RKSY1 category, the portal will show your Mukhyamantri Swasthya Bima Yojana status in the same way.
- If verification is still in progress, the portal will inform you that your case is under verification.
If You Are Not Found Under Any Ration Card Category
Beneficiaries who hold a valid Swasthya Sathi URN but whose Aadhaar is not found under the AAY, SPHH, PHH or RKSY1 categories can still check their status on the same portal.
- Enter your Swasthya Sathi URN on the portal.
- An OTP is sent to the registered mobile number of the Swasthya Sathi main beneficiary for authentication.
- After OTP verification, a form showing all family members and their current AB-PMJAY/MMSBY eligibility is displayed.
- If any family member does not have an ABHA ID, their Aadhaar number must be entered to generate one.
Steps to Apply
West Bengal Mukhyamantri Swasthya Bima Yojana enrolment currently works mainly through field verification, alongside a limited online application option for a specific category of beneficiaries, as confirmed by the West Bengal Health & Family Welfare Department.
Current Enrolment Process
- Eligible families are identified from the NFSA ration card database, the RKSY1 category for Mukhyamantri Swasthya Bima Yojana.
- Pre-filled forms for these families are physically verified by Field-Level Workers (FLWs).
- Verified forms are passed to Data Entry Operators and Extension Officers for digitisation and eligibility verification.
- Once verified, the Mukhyamantri Swasthya Bima Yojana health card, also known as the Swasthya Sathi Card, is activated for the family.
