Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview
- The Delhi Cabinet approved the Free LPG Cylinder Scheme on 03-02-2026 for the residents of the National Capital Territory.
- Chief Minister Rekha Gupta formally announced the cabinet's decision to implement the Delhi Nishulk Gas Cylinder Yojana in the State.
- Now on 02-03-2026, the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu officially launched the Delhi Government's Free LPG Cylinder Scheme.
- The government launched this scheme to reduce the financial burden of rising LPG prices on low-income households, especially during major festivals.
- Through this initiative, the Delhi Government reinforces its commitment to promoting clean cooking fuel and improving residents' quality of life.
- Under the scheme, eligible beneficiaries will receive the benefit of two domestic LPG cylinders free of cost every year.
- Families holding a valid ration card will receive one free cylinder each on the occasions of Holi and Diwali.
- The Delhi Government will transfer Rs. 853, which equals the cost of one domestic LPG cylinder, directly into the beneficiary's bank account.
- However, beneficiaries covered under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana will receive Rs. 553 per cylinder.
- The government will deduct Rs. 300, as this amount already comes as a subsidy from the Central Government.
- The Chief Minister further clarified that households using PNG connections will also receive financial assistance equivalent to the price of one LPG cylinder under this scheme.
- To ensure smooth implementation, the Delhi Government has allocated a budget of Rs. 242.77 crore for the scheme.
- On the 2nd of March 2026, eligible beneficiaries received Rs. 853 directly in their bank accounts to purchase a gas cylinder under the Delhi Government's Free LPG Cylinder Scheme.
- Around 15.5 Lakh beneficiaries had received Rs. 129 crore directly into their Aadhaar-linked bank account.
- Contact your gas distribution agency in case you didn't receive the number of cylinders as transferred by the Delhi Government under the Free LPG Cylinder Scheme.
- Further, the Delhi Government is also set to launch "Mahila Samriddhi Yojana" in the state, in which monthly financial assistance will be provided to eligible women beneficiaries.
Scheme Benefits
- The government will provide free gas cylinders on the occasions of Holi and Diwali.
- Each eligible beneficiary will receive the complete purchase value of one LPG cylinder.
- Domestic LPG consumers will receive Rs. 853 in their bank account, while beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana will receive Rs. 553.
- Households using a PNG (Piped Natural Gas) connection will also qualify to receive the prescribed amount.
- The government will transfer the cylinder amount directly into the beneficiary's bank account through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
Eligibility Requirements
- Only families who are permanent residents of Delhi will qualify under the scheme.
- The beneficiary household must possess a valid and active ration card.
- Beneficiaries enrolled under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana are also eligible to avail the benefit.
- The government will provide one free LPG cylinder exclusively on the occasions of Holi and Diwali.
- Households with a PNG (Piped Natural Gas) connection will also fall within the scope of this scheme.
- Commercial LPG connections are not eligible for benefits under this scheme.
Required Documents
- Ration Card.
- Beneficiary Aadhaar Card.
- Bank Account Number.
- Gas Connection Book.
Steps to Apply
- Under the Delhi Government's Free LPG Cylinder Scheme the beneficiaries do not need to submit any separate application to receive the free LPG cylinder during Holi and Diwali.
- The government will obtain the list of eligible beneficiaries through the respective gas distribution agencies.
- Based on this verified data, the subsidy amount equivalent to the cost of one LPG cylinder will be transferred directly into the beneficiary's Aadhaar-linked bank account through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
- Once the amount is credited, the beneficiary must use the same funds to purchase the LPG cylinder from their registered gas agency.
- The government does not supply a free physical cylinder separately, instead, financial assistance is provided in advance or as reimbursement, as per the scheme framework.
- If, for any reason, the cylinder amount is not credited to your bank account, you should immediately contact your registered gas distribution agency.
- While doing so, keep your consumer number, Aadhaar details, and bank account information ready for verification.
- The agency will check your eligibility status, Aadhaar-bank linkage, and DBT activation.
- If required, you may also need to update your KYC details to ensure smooth transfer of benefits in future instalments of the Free LPG Cylinder Scheme.
