Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

The Delhi Young Aqua Leader Internship Programme is an internship initiative of the Delhi Jal Board (DJB), Government of NCT of Delhi, designed to give young students and graduates practical exposure to the functioning of the Delhi Jal Board and the water sector. The programme provides opportunities to participate in research, innovation, policy formulation, public outreach, citizen engagement and water sector governance while gaining practical experience through assigned internship activities.

Under the Young Aqua Leader Internship Programme, a maximum of 40 interns will be selected in each internship cycle, including 20 final-year undergraduate students and 20 graduate and postgraduate students. Final-year undergraduate students will undertake a 2-month internship, while graduate and postgraduate interns can undertake an internship of up to 6 months, depending on performance and departmental requirements.

The internship benefits differ according to the educational category. Final-year undergraduate interns will not receive an honorarium, while selected graduate and postgraduate interns will receive an honorarium of ₹15,000 per month. Interns can also receive an Internship Completion Certificate after fulfilling the prescribed requirements, and deserving interns may receive a Letter of Recommendation based on their performance.

The Delhi Young Aqua Leader Internship Programme 2026 is open to final-year undergraduate students, fresh graduates and fresh postgraduates who meet the prescribed educational and age requirements. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and must be pursuing or have completed their studies from a recognized university, college, institution or technical educational institution. Fresh graduates must have completed their Bachelor's Degree within two years before the application date, while fresh postgraduates must have completed their Master's Degree within two years before applying.

Eligibility Requirements

Selection Process

The Delhi Jal Board will select interns through an Internship Committee headed by an officer not below the rank of Director. The Committee will evaluate eligible applications according to the prescribed selection criteria.

Terms and Conditions

Selected interns must follow these key terms and conditions for the duration of the internship:

• Each intern must submit a Joining Report within one week of joining, a Mid-Term Progress Report, and a Final Project Report.
• A minimum of 90% attendance is mandatory for the Internship Completion Certificate.
• DJB may discontinue an internship at any stage for unsatisfactory performance, unauthorised absence, or breach of confidentiality; no honorarium is payable for the unserved period in such cases.
• Every intern must execute a Confidentiality-cum-Data Protection Undertaking before the internship begins, and the internship is governed by the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
• No document, report, photograph, data, or information accessed during the internship may be published or shared via print, electronic, or social media, without DJB's prior written approval.
• Access to SCADA systems, control rooms, and plant control systems is strictly observation-based, under the supervision of authorised officers.
• Intellectual Property Rights in all reports, studies, research papers, and other outputs prepared during the internship vest exclusively with DJB.
• Field visits are permitted only under supervision, with mandatory PPE at Water Treatment Plants, Sewage Treatment Plants, and sewer installations.
• DJB is not responsible or liable for any injury, accident, loss, damage, or claim arising during the internship.
• The internship confers no right to appointment, employment, contractual engagement, or regularisation, and creates no employer–employee relationship with DJB or the Govt. of NCT of Delhi.
