Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has launched the Digital India Internship Scheme 2026 to provide students with practical work experience in the technology sector. This program allows students to work under experienced government mentors and apply their classroom knowledge to real projects. The main goal is to help students gain hands-on experience while contributing to MeitY's various technology initiatives.

The scheme offers internship positions in 33 specialised technical areas, including Digital Forensics, Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, Semiconductors, VLSI and Chip Designing, Blockchain, Quantum Technologies, Cloud Computing, and more. Students will work at MeitY's office in New Delhi for a minimum of two months, extendable up to three months based on performance. Each intern receives a dedicated supervisor from the ministry for guidance throughout the internship period.

Selected candidates receive a monthly stipend of Rs. 10,000/- after satisfactory completion of their work. The payment is made after the internship ends and the final report is submitted. Along with the stipend, students gain valuable experience working in a government ministry and receive an official Certificate of Internship upon successful completion. This certificate is issued by a Government of India ministry and adds significant value to your academic and professional profile.

To apply, students must be Indian citizens from recognised universities with at least 60% marks in their last exam. Eligible courses include B.E/B. Tech, M.E/M.Tech, M.Sc, MCA, and DOEACC 'B' Level in Computer Science, IT, Electronics, or Communications. LL.B students can apply for the Public Policy areas, and Economics/Statistics students for the Digital Economy area. Important note - final year students or those graduating in summer 2026 are not eligible. Only students with at least one more year remaining in their course can apply.

Digital India Internship Scheme applications must be submitted online between 10th April 2026 and 29th April 2026 through the official portal at intern.meity.gov.in. Your college or university must sponsor your application - without institutional support, applications will not be accepted. The selection process includes application review and possible interviews. Results will be announced on 19th May 2026, and the internship will run from 1st June 2026 to 31st July 2026. Students must arrange their own accommodation in Delhi as the ministry does not provide housing facilities.

Remember, this internship is for learning and gaining experience only - it does not guarantee employment with MeitY. The ministry retains all intellectual property rights to work done during the internship. Interns must follow ministry rules, maintain confidentiality, and submit a final report at the end. Eligibility Requirement

• Only individuals holding Indian citizenship are permitted to apply.
• Candidates must have achieved a minimum of 60% marks in their most recent qualifying exam.

• Applicants should currently be enrolled in any of the following degree programs :-

  B.E. – in streams such as Computer Science & Engineering, IT, Electronics, or Electrical B.Tech – in relevant technical disciplines M.E. / M.Tech – postgraduate programs in engineering fields M.Sc – with specialization in Computer Science, IT, Electronics, or Electrical MCA – Master of Computer Applications DOEACC 'B' Level course LLB – for law students Bachelor's degree in Economics or Statistics

• Students in their final semester or graduating in summer 2026 are not eligible.
• Applicants must have at least one academic year left to complete in their ongoing program.
• The internship will be conducted in New Delhi, and applicants must be ready to attend it.

Steps to Apply

• Students who meet the eligibility criteria can apply online for the MeitY Digital India Internship through a dedicated web portal launched by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
• To begin, visit the official website of the Digital India Internship Scheme.
• Click on the "Register" button and fill out the registration form with the following details:

  • Enter the Captcha code and submit
• An OTP will be sent to the registered email for account verification.
• After successful verification, log in to the portal using your email ID and password.
• Once logged in, the application form will be displayed, divided into three major sections.

  • Select any two preferred project areas offered under the scheme
  • Provide names and designations of two academic or professional referees
• After filling out all details, upload the required documents such as academic certificates, a photograph, and a signature.
• Click the "Submit" button to complete the application process.
• After submission, the system will generate a unique reference number and an acknowledgement slip.
• Applicants can track the status of their application using their registered email and reference number on the portal.
• Shortlisted candidates will receive their internship offer letters via email from the ministry.
• It is essential to accept the offer to receive a formal confirmation letter for the internship.

Selection Process

• Once the online application is submitted, officials at the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology will review and evaluate the entries.
• Candidates will be shortlisted based on a Personal or Skype-based interview round.
• Applicants appearing in the interview will not receive any travel or daily allowance (TA/DA) reimbursement.
• Following the interview process, the names of selected interns will be made public through the official website.
• The ministry will send Internship Offer Letters via email to those who are chosen.
• Candidates must formally accept the offer to proceed further in the selection process.
• Upon confirmation, an Internship Joining Letter will be issued to the selected individuals by the ministry.
