Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

Haryana Mera Pani Meri Virasat Scheme is an important crop diversification initiative launched by the Haryana Government to address the rapidly declining groundwater level in the state. Haryana is one of the largest paddy-producing states in India, but continuous cultivation of water-intensive crops such as paddy has created serious pressure on groundwater resources. To tackle this issue, the government introduced the Mera Paani Meri Virasat Scheme to encourage farmers to shift towards alternative crops that require less water and provide sustainable farming opportunities.

The scheme operates under the broader Crop Diversification Programme and promotes the cultivation of crops such as maize, cotton, pulses, oilseeds, vegetables, fodder crops, horticulture crops, and agro-forestry plants instead of paddy cultivation. Through this initiative, the government aims to conserve groundwater, improve soil fertility, reduce environmental stress, restore the declining water table, reduce soil fatigue and pollution, and create a balanced agricultural system in Haryana.

Under the scheme, farmers cultivating alternative low water-consuming crops instead of paddy receive financial assistance of Rs. 8000 per acre. The Haryana Government also provides an additional bonus of Rs. 2,000 per acre to farmers cultivating cotton, pulses, and oilseed crops in place of paddy cultivation.

Farmers who leave their fields fallow instead of cultivating paddy are also eligible for benefits under the scheme. The scheme not only provides financial assistance but also promotes modern agricultural techniques, water-saving technologies, soil health improvement measures, awareness campaigns, training programmes, cluster demonstrations, Kisan Melas, and distribution of DHaincha seeds for improving soil quality.

Registration on the official "Meri Fasal Mera Byora" portal is mandatory for receiving benefits under the Haryana Mera Paani Meri Virasat Scheme. The Haryana Government started registration for the Kharif season 2026 from 20 May 2026 through the portal.

The main objective of Haryana Mera Paani Meri Virasat Scheme is to promote sustainable agriculture, encourage crop diversification, improve farmers' income, conserve natural resources, and enable farmers to adopt environmentally friendly farming practices for future generations.
