Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

Maharashtra Ramai Awas Yojana is a housing welfare scheme implemented by the Social Justice and Special Assistance Department, Government of Maharashtra. The scheme aims to provide financial assistance for the construction of permanent houses to eligible Scheduled Caste (SC) and Neo-Buddhist families who do not have access to adequate housing facilities. Through this initiative, the state government seeks to improve the living conditions of economically weaker households by helping them build safe, durable, and dignified homes with sanitation facilities.

Ramai Awas Yojana is one of the major housing schemes being implemented under Maharashtra's broader housing mission and Maha Awas Abhiyan. Along with this scheme, the state government also implements Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G), Aadim Awas Yojana, and Modi Awas Gharkul Yojana to provide housing assistance to different beneficiary categories across the state. These schemes collectively contribute to the goal of ensuring permanent housing for all eligible rural families in Maharashtra.

Under Ramai Awas Yojana, eligible beneficiaries can receive housing assistance of up to ₹1.20 lakh in general areas and up to ₹1.30 lakh in Naxal-affected or hilly areas for the construction of a pucca house. In addition, beneficiaries can avail labour support under MGNREGA (now known as PM Viksit Bharat G RAM G) for 90–95 unskilled person-days and receive ₹12,000 for toilet construction under Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin). The scheme promotes the construction of self-owned houses with a minimum built-up area of approximately 269 square feet, ensuring access to better housing and sanitation facilities.

Beneficiary selection is carried out through Gram Sabha recommendations and verification by competent authorities to ensure transparency and fairness. Housing assistance is released directly into beneficiaries' bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system, while construction progress is monitored through digital platforms and geo-tagging technology. By providing financial support for housing construction, sanitation facilities, and labour assistance, Ramai Awas Yojana helps improve housing security, health conditions, and the overall quality of life of Scheduled Caste families in Maharashtra.

Eligibility Requirements

• The applicant must be a permanent resident of Maharashtra.
• The applicant should belong to the Scheduled Caste (SC) or Neo-Buddhist category.
• The applicant should have resided in Maharashtra for at least 15 years.
• The applicant should not own a suitable permanent house.
• The applicant should possess land or an eligible house site for construction.
• Only one member from a family can avail of benefits under the scheme.
• The beneficiary should not have previously received benefits under any other housing scheme.
• Annual family income in rural areas should not exceed Rs 1.20 lakh.
• Annual family income in urban areas should not exceed Rs 3 lakh.
• The applicant must fulfil all conditions prescribed by the Government of Maharashtra.

Steps to Apply

• Visit the Gram Panchayat office, Municipal Council, Municipal Corporation, or the concerned Social Justice Department office to obtain information about Ramai Awas Yojana.
• Obtain the Ramai Awas Yojana application form from the concerned authority.
• Fill out the application form carefully and provide all required personal, income, caste, and residential details.
• Attach the required documents along with the completed application form.
• Submit the Ramai Awas Yojana application form to the concerned office for verification.
• The application and supporting documents will be verified by the competent authority.
• Eligible applicants may be considered for beneficiary selection through the prescribed process, including Gram Sabha recommendations wherever applicable.
• After approval, housing assistance will be sanctioned to the beneficiary under Ramai Awas Yojana.
• The financial assistance amount will be transferred directly to the beneficiary's bank account through the DBT system.
• The beneficiary can start house construction as per the scheme guidelines and approved plan.
