Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

Maharashtra Aadim Awas Yojana is a housing assistance scheme implemented by the Tribal Development Department, Government of Maharashtra, to provide permanent housing to eligible tribal families belonging to Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs). The scheme was introduced through a Government Resolution dated 15 February 2017 and is fully funded by the Government of Maharashtra. It primarily benefits families from the Katkari, Madia Gond and Kolam tribal communities who do not own a pucca house and require financial assistance for constructing a permanent dwelling.

Under Maharashtra Aadim Awas Yojana, eligible beneficiaries receive financial assistance of ₹1.20 lakh in general areas and ₹1.30 lakh in Naxal-affected and hilly areas for the construction of a pucca house. In addition, beneficiaries may receive up to 90 days of wage assistance under the PM Viksit Bharat G RAM G Yojana (previous known as MGNREGA) and ₹12,000 for toilet construction under Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin). These benefits help reduce the financial burden on tribal families while ensuring access to safe and dignified housing.

The scheme assists in constructing a pucca house with a minimum area of approximately 269 square feet. The approved house design includes essential facilities such as a kitchen and toilet, helping beneficiaries achieve better sanitation, improved health outcomes and an enhanced quality of life. While housing programmes such as Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G), Ramai Awas Yojana, Yashwantrao Chavan Mukta Vasahat Yojana and Modi Awas Gharkul Yojana provide housing assistance to different sections of society, Maharashtra Aadim Awas Yojana specifically focuses on addressing the housing needs of vulnerable tribal communities. Eligibility Requirements

Steps to Apply

Maharashtra Aadim Awas Yojana does not have a separate online application portal. Eligible beneficiaries are identified and selected through the Gram Sabha and the Tribal Development Department as per the scheme guidelines. The application and beneficiary selection process generally involves the following steps:

• Contact the Gram Panchayat or the nearest Tribal Development Office to obtain information about the scheme.
• Ensure that your family details are available in the records used for beneficiary identification.
• Eligible tribal families belonging to Katkari, Madia Gond or Kolam communities may be considered for inclusion under the scheme.
• The Gram Sabha identifies and recommends eligible beneficiaries who do not own a pucca house.
• The recommended beneficiary list is forwarded to the concerned authorities for verification.
• The eligibility of applicants is verified by the competent authorities as per the scheme guidelines.
• The District Level Committee scrutinises and approves the final beneficiary list.
• After approval, housing assistance is sanctioned to the selected beneficiaries.
