Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

Education is one of the most important tools for building a brighter future, but many girls discontinue their studies due to financial difficulties and social challenges. To encourage girls to continue their education and reduce the dropout rate at the upper primary and secondary levels, the Government of Maharashtra introduced the Savitribai Phule Scholarship Scheme.

Under this scheme, eligible girl students belonging to the VJNT (Vimukta Jati & Nomadic Tribes), SBC (Special Backward Class), and SC categories studying in Classes 5 to 10 receive financial assistance to support their education. Girls studying in Classes 5 to 7 receive a scholarship of ₹600 per academic year, while girls studying in Classes 8 to 10 receive ₹1,000 per academic year. The scholarship can be used to meet day-to-day educational expenses such as notebooks, stationery, school uniforms, books, and other essential study-related requirements, helping families reduce the financial burden of school education.

One of the major advantages of this scheme is that there is no family income limit and no minimum marks requirement for receiving the scholarship. This allows every eligible girl student belonging to the prescribed categories to benefit from the scheme, regardless of her family's financial condition or academic performance.

Another important feature of the scheme is its school-based application process. Students and parents are not required to submit individual applications. Instead, the Headmaster or Principal of the school identifies eligible students, prepares a consolidated scholarship proposal, and submits it online through the MahaDBT Pre-Matric Portal. After the proposal is verified and approved by the concerned authorities, the scholarship amount is released to the eligible beneficiaries as per the scheme guidelines.

Through the Savitribai Phule Scholarship Scheme, the Government of Maharashtra aims to promote girls' education, encourage them to complete their schooling, reduce the dropout rate among socially disadvantaged communities, and provide financial support so that eligible students can continue their studies without interruption.
