Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview
With a strong focus on educational welfare and social upliftment, the Government of Kerala has introduced the Mother Teresa Scholarship (MTS) 2025–2026 to support students from notified minority communities pursuing nursing and paramedical diploma courses. Under this scheme, eligible students receive a scholarship of Rs 15,000 per academic year to reduce their financial burden and encourage continued education in the healthcare sector.
The scheme covers students from Muslim, Christian (all sects), Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, and Parsi communities who are enrolled in Government nursing schools or Government/Government-aided/self-financing institutions offering General Nursing or paramedical diploma courses. Students must have secured admission through a merit seat and obtained at least 45% marks in their qualifying examination to be eligible.
Preference is given to students from the BPL category. In the absence of BPL applicants, APL students with an annual family income up to Rs 8,00,000 from minority communities are also considered. To promote gender equity, 50% of the scholarships are reserved for female students. The scholarship is granted only once during the course period, and applicants must be permanent residents of Kerala with a bank account in their own name.
In addition to the Mother Teresa Scholarship, the Directorate of Minority Welfare, Government of Kerala, also implements several other scholarship schemes aimed at supporting students from minority communities. These include the APJ Abdul Kalam Scholarship, Civil Services Fee Reimbursement Scholarship, and Chief Minister's Research Fellowship Scheme. Each of these schemes targets different education levels and eligibility categories, ensuring wider access to financial assistance for deserving students. Applicants are encouraged to explore these schemes to identify the most suitable support for their academic journey.
