Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

The Vidyasamunnathi Coaching Assistance Scheme is a Government of Kerala state plan scheme that gives financial help to students and job aspirants from the economically backward sections of forward communities so they can join coaching for competitive examinations. The Kerala State Welfare Corporation for Forward Communities Ltd. (KSWCFC), a Government of Kerala undertaking, runs the scheme as its nodal agency. It covers coaching for Medical, Engineering, Law and CUET entrance examinations, Banking, SSC, Kerala PSC and UPSC recruitment examinations, eligibility tests like NET, SET, CTET and KTET, and every stage of the UPSC Civil Services Examination.

KSWCFC has been helping forward community students with coaching fees for many years. Good coaching costs a lot, and many families from these communities do not get support under any reservation scheme of the Central or State Government. The objective of the scheme is to provide financial assistance at prescribed rates to selected candidates from economically backward forward community families, so that they can prepare for competitive examinations, secure jobs in Union and State Government services and the banking sector, and improve their social, educational and economic status.

Under the Vidyasamunnathi Coaching Assistance Scheme, the corporation provides ₹10,000 per year for Medical, Engineering, Law, and CUET entrance coaching; ₹6,000 for Banking, SSC, PSC, UPSC (other than Civil Services), and other competitive examinations; and ₹8,000 for eligibility tests. Civil Services aspirants get ₹15,000 for Prelims, ₹25,000 for Mains and ₹30,000 for Interview preparation. Applicants must belong to a forward community that does not fall under any reservation scheme, and their annual family income must not exceed ₹4 lakh.

The scheme works on a reimbursement basis. Applicants choose a reputed coaching centre in Kerala registered under a local body, apply online through the official portal, and KSWCFC selects beneficiaries mainly based on annual family income, giving preference to the lowest-income group. Selected candidates produce the fee receipt from their coaching institution, and the corporation credits the assistance to their active bank account. KSWCFC does not consider online courses, and a candidate can avail the assistance only once (Civil Services aspirants can apply again only for a higher stage).

The Kerala Government also runs other education support schemes, such as the Chief Minister’s Research Fellowship Scheme, which supports eligible research scholars, and the Civil Service Fee Reimbursement Scholarship Scheme, which reimburses eligible civil service aspirants’ fees. You can check the details of these schemes here.
