Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

The AICTE YASHASVI Scholarship Scheme, officially known as the Young Achievers' Scholarship and Holistic Academic Skills Venture Initiative (YASHASVI) Scheme, is a scholarship programme introduced by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to encourage meritorious students to pursue technical education in core Engineering and Technology branches. The scheme supports students pursuing Degree and Diploma-level courses in AICTE-approved technical institutions and covers branches such as Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering and Textile Technology.

Under the AICTE YASHASVI Scholarship, eligible Degree students receive ₹50,000 per year, while eligible Diploma students receive ₹30,000 per year. Degree students admitted in the first year can receive the scholarship for up to four years, while lateral-entry Degree students can receive it for up to three years. Diploma students can receive the scholarship for up to three years for first-year admission and up to two years through lateral entry. The scholarship is paid annually through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

Students admitted to the first year or through lateral entry in an AICTE-approved Degree or Diploma programme can apply, subject to the prescribed eligibility conditions. The applicant's annual family income must not exceed ₹8 lakh, and a valid income certificate issued by the concerned State/UT Government is required. Selection is based on qualifying examination merit, with Class 12 merit considered for Degree courses and Class 10 merit considered for Diploma courses. The scheme provides 5,200 scholarships every year, comprising 2,593 scholarships for Degree courses and 2,607 scholarships for Diploma courses.

For the current application cycle, the last date to submit the AICTE YASHASVI Scholarship application is 15 September 2026. The deadline applies to fresh and renewal applications as per the revised schedule. Students should complete their applications and upload the required documents before the deadline to allow the subsequent verification process to be completed within the prescribed timeline.

The scholarship is renewable for the next academic year subject to the prescribed conditions. Students must submit the required passing certificate/marksheet along with a letter from the Head of the Institution for renewal. Students who fail to get promoted, drop out, change from the specified core branches, or receive financial assistance from another source may lose their scholarship under the applicable scheme conditions. Applications are submitted online through the YASHASVI Scholarship Portal and are subsequently verified by the host institution and AICTE.

Along with Yashasvi, AICTE runs a few other scholarship programmes aimed at different groups of deserving students. These include the Saksham Scholarship for differently-abled students, the Pragati Scholarship Scheme for meritorious girl students, and the Swanath Scholarship Scheme for orphans and children of martyred armed forces personnel. Together, these initiatives reflect the Central Government's ongoing commitment to making technical education inclusive and within reach for every deserving student in the country.

Selection Criteria

Here is how AICTE selects candidates for the Yashasvi Scholarship under the Degree and Diploma categories.

  • Degree-level students are selected purely on the merit of their qualifying examination (12th grade) marks
  • Lateral Entry candidates are selected based on the average consolidated percentage across all 6 semesters of their Diploma, limited to 10% of the total seat allocation in their respective state
  • Diploma-level students are selected purely on the merit of their 10th grade marks
  • A separate State/UT-wise merit list is prepared based on the number of scholarships allotted to each State/UT
  • If scholarship seats in the Lateral Entry quota remain unfilled, they may be allocated to the open category, and vice versa

In case of a tie in merit, AICTE applies the following order to break it.

  • For Degree students, if the 12th grade percentage ties, the higher percentage in the 10th grade examination is ranked higher
  • For Degree students, if the 10th grade percentage also ties, the candidate with greater age is ranked higher
  • For Diploma students, if the 10th grade percentage ties, the candidate with greater age is ranked higher

Reservation in the selection process follows Government of India norms. If a reserved category candidate also qualifies under the General Category merit list, they are counted under the General Category.
