Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

The Karnataka Arivu Education Loan Scheme is an education loan programme implemented by the Karnataka Minorities Development Corporation (KMDC) to support students belonging to Religious Minority Communities in pursuing professional higher education. Under this scheme, eligible students selected through the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) CET or NEET for admission to eligible Government or Private colleges can receive an education loan ranging from Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 5,00,000 per academic year, depending on the course. The loan is available for every academic year during the course duration and is offered at a concessional interest rate of 2% per annum.

The scheme covers a wide range of professional courses, including MBBS, BDS, Engineering, Architecture, Pharmacy, Management, Law, Agriculture, AYUSH and several allied disciplines. Students pursuing MBBS, MD and MS courses can receive a maximum education loan of Rs. 5 lakh per year, while students enrolled in other eligible professional courses can avail financial assistance as per the loan limits prescribed by KMDC. After approval, the sanctioned loan amount is transferred directly to the bank account of the respective educational institution. For the current application cycle, eligible minority students should submit their applications by 27 June 2026, while students belonging to the Christian minority community can submit their applications up to 30 September 2026.

To apply for the Karnataka Arivu Education Loan Scheme, applicants must belong to a notified Religious Minority Community in Karnataka, be permanent residents of the state and have an annual parental income of not more than Rs. 8 lakh. Students must secure admission to an eligible professional course through the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) CET or NEET in a Government or Private college. In addition, students belonging to Religious Minority Communities, except Christians, must have secured at least 60% marks in the qualifying examination to become eligible for assistance under the scheme.

The education loan sanctioned under the scheme must be repaid within 48 months, and the repayment period starts one year after the successful completion of the course. The concessional 2% annual interest rate makes the scheme an affordable financing option for eligible minority students, helping them complete professional education without facing financial constraints.
