Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

Education is one of the most powerful tools for social and economic upliftment. However, many students face financial and social challenges that make it difficult to continue their studies after school. This challenge is often seen when students move to higher secondary education, where extra support becomes important.

To support such students, the Government of Goa introduced the Kanya Dhan Scheme for girl students belonging to the Scheduled Caste (SC) communities. The scheme aims to encourage educational continuity and ensure that eligible students receive the support they need to complete their studies.

Under this scheme, every SC girl student who has successfully passed the 10th Standard and is enrolled in the 11th Standard is registered as a beneficiary. Upon successfully passing the 12th Standard Board Examination (or its equivalent), she becomes eligible for a one-time financial assistance of ₹25,000. This amount is provided as a fixed deposit in her name, encouraging both educational continuity and financial security. Applications for the scheme are submitted online through the Chief Minister Scholarship Portal, making the process accessible and streamlined.

The Government of Goa's commitment to student welfare extends beyond this initiative. The same portal also hosts several other scholarship and assistance schemes for students from Scheduled Tribes, OBC (Dhangar), Divyang (disabled) categories, and other eligible groups. Of these, some schemes are Eklavya Prashikshan Yojana, Parrikar Goa Scholars Scheme, and Bursary Scheme.
