Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

The Punjab Mukhyamantri Nishulk Teerth Yatra Yojana is a welfare initiative launched by the Punjab Government to help senior citizens undertake pilgrimages to renowned religious destinations across India at no cost. Under this scheme, eligible residents of Punjab can visit sacred places completely free of cost. The Punjab CM Teerth Yatra Yojana provides transportation, accommodation, meals, medical assistance, and other essential facilities, ensuring that devotees can complete their spiritual journey safely and comfortably. The scheme promotes inclusive pilgrimage by allowing people from all religions and communities to participate.

Initially launched on 27 November 2023, the scheme covers several prominent pilgrimage destinations including Sri Harmandir Sahib, Sri Hazur Sahib, Takht Sri Patna Sahib, Mata Vaishno Devi, Sri Anandpur Sahib, Varanasi, Khatu Shyam Ji, Salasar Balaji, Ajmer Sharif, Mata Chintpurni, Mata Jwala Ji, and many other religious places. Also referred to by many beneficiaries as the Punjab Mukhyamantri Muft Teerth Yatra Yojana, the scheme has continued to expand by introducing additional pilgrimage circuits and simplifying the registration process. Under the latest announcement, the Punjab Tirth Yatra Yojana will introduce three new routes covering Salasar–Khatu Shyam, Haridwar–Rishikesh, and Mathura–Vrindavan, which are expected to commence tentatively from 1 August 2026.

Under the current guidelines, permanent residents of Punjab who are 50 years of age or above and are medically fit can apply for the Punjab Mukhyamantri Nishulk Teerth Yatra Yojana. The Government bears the major expenses of the pilgrimage, including travel by AC bus or train, accommodation in designated hotels or guest houses, meals, drinking water, medical assistance, and a pilgrim kit containing essential items such as a blanket, bed sheet, pillow, towel, toiletries, and other daily-use articles. The mode of transportation depends on the selected pilgrimage route notified by the Government. Applicants who are 75 years or above are also permitted to travel with one attendant as per the scheme guidelines. If the number of eligible applications exceeds the available seats, beneficiaries are selected through a transparent computerised lucky draw conducted by the Government. The scheme is also commonly known as the Punjab Chief Minister Free Pilgrimage Site Scheme because it enables eligible devotees to undertake pilgrimage without any travel-related expenses.

After successful verification and selection, applicants receive travel-related information, including the pilgrimage schedule, through SMS. Eligibility Requirements

• The applicant must be a permanent resident of Punjab.
• The applicant must be at least 50 years of age at the time of registration.
• The applicant should be medically fit to undertake the pilgrimage.
• The scheme is open to eligible devotees of all religions and communities.
• An applicant who is 75 years of age or above may be accompanied by one attendant during the pilgrimage, subject to the scheme guidelines.
• The applicant must provide valid identity, age, and residence proof during the application and verification process.

• Eligible beneficiaries can also apply offline for the Punjab Mukhyamantri Nishulk Teerth Yatra Yojana.
• Visit the office of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of your respective district to obtain the application form.

Selection Process

• After receiving the application, the concerned authorities verify the applicant's eligibility and the submitted documents.
• Only applications that successfully complete the verification process are considered for selection.
• If the number of eligible applications is within the available seats, all eligible applicants are selected for the pilgrimage.
• If the number of eligible applications exceeds the available seats, the Government conducts a computerised lucky draw to ensure a fair and transparent selection process.
• Selected beneficiaries are informed through SMS on their registered mobile number.
• The SMS contains details about the allotted pilgrimage route, reporting date, departure time, and other travel instructions.
• Beneficiaries are required to report at the designated boarding point with their original documents on the scheduled date.
• The Punjab Government arranges the pilgrimage through AC buses or trains, depending on the allotted route.

Note: Selection under the Punjab Mukhyamantri Nishulk Teerth Yatra Yojana is subject to fulfilment of the eligibility conditions and the availability of seats for each pilgrimage batch.
