Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview
- The Rajasthan Government introduced the revamped free electricity scheme named 150 Unit Nishulk Bijli Yojana, on 14 October 2025.
- On the same day, Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah inaugurated the official portal of the scheme.
- Earlier, the state ran the Mukhyamantri Nishulk Bijli Yojana during the Congress government, which offered free electricity for the first 100 units per month.
- With the new scheme, the government increased this benefit to 150 units per month and linked it with rooftop solar adoption.
- The primary aim of this initiative is to reduce the electricity bill burden on households and promote green energy through rooftop solar power plants.
- The Energy Department of Rajasthan implements the scheme across the state with support from the following three DISCOMs i.e. Jodhpur Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited, Ajmer Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited and Jaipur Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited.
- Under the scheme, the Rajasthan Government provides free electricity up to 150 units every month.
- However, to receive this benefit, applicants must install a minimum 1.1 kW rooftop solar power plant under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana of the Central Government.
- This condition makes the scheme applicable only to households that have sufficient rooftop space and are willing to install a solar plant.
- Eligible applicants can receive a Rs. 33,000 subsidy from the Central Government under PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.
- Later, on 07 November 2025, the Rajasthan Government announced an additional Rs. 17,000 subsidy for beneficiaries who install rooftop solar systems.
- DISCOMs also provide smart electricity meters free of cost to eligible households.
- Only those consumers who already hold registration under the Mukhyamantri Nishulk Bijli Yojana can claim benefits under this new scheme.
- To begin the process, the applicant must submit consent on the Official Website of the 150 Unit Nishulk Bijli Yojana, confirming readiness to install a rooftop solar plant.
- In the next step, the applicant must apply under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.
- After the solar plant installation and DISCOM verification, beneficiaries start receiving zero-amount electricity bills for consumption up to 150 units per month.
- The government estimates that around 1.04 crore registered beneficiaries will receive benefits under this scheme across Rajasthan.
- For assistance or guidance, applicants can contact their nearest DISCOM office.

Scheme Benefits
- Beneficiaries who install a rooftop solar power plant receive free electricity up to 150 units every month.
- For consumption within this limit, the electricity bill shows zero payable amount.
- If monthly usage crosses 150 units, the electricity department charges normal tariff rates for the additional units.
- The scheme also offers a total subsidy of Rs. 50,000 for installing a 1.1 kW rooftop solar plant.
- Out of this amount, the Central Government provides Rs. 33,000 under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, while the Rajasthan Government contributes Rs. 17,000.
- DISCOMs extend an additional Rs. 1,100 incentive to the first 10 lakh beneficiaries.
- Along with this, the electricity department installs a smart electricity meter free of cost, which helps beneficiaries monitor consumption accurately.

- Give consent for the installation of a rooftop solar plant.
- Submit an application under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.
Process to Give Consent for Installing a Solar Plant
- The Rajasthan Government gives the benefit of the 150 Unit Nishulk Bijli Yojana only to those applicants who already hold registration under the Mukhyamantri Nishulk Bijli Yojana alias Chief Minister Free Electricity Scheme of Rajasthan.
- Eligible applicants must first give consent for installing a rooftop solar power plant.
- In the initial phase, the government covers only those households that have sufficient rooftop space for solar installation.
- Domestic electricity consumers in Rajasthan who receive benefits under the Mukhyamantri Nishulk Bijli Yojana can submit their consent through the 150 Unit Nishulk Bijli Yojana Website or the Bijli Mitra Mobile App.
- Open the official portal and select 150 Unit Per Month Nishulk Bijli Yojana.

- A new page will appear with scheme guidelines and a field to enter your 12-digit K Number.
- Read the instructions carefully, enter your K Number, and click on Search.
- The portal checks eligibility and verifies the electricity connection through OTP authentication.
- After verification, the system auto-fills the consent form with details such as :-
- Name.
- Father Name.
- Electricity Account Number.
- Status of Beneficiary.
- Sanctioned Load.
- Address of the Applicant.
- Mobile Number.
- Confirm that you have adequate rooftop space to install a solar power plant by selecting Yes.
- Read all instructions, tick the consent checkbox, and click on Register.
- After successful registration, the portal displays a confirmation message showing your K Number and Consent Number.
- Download and save the consent form for future use.
- Once you complete this step, apply for the rooftop solar plant under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana to receive up to 150 units of free electricity per month under the Rajasthan Government's free electricity scheme.
Application Procedure under PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana
- After giving consent on the Official Portal of the 150 Unit Nishulk Bijli Yojana, applicants must submit a separate application under the Central Government's PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana to install a rooftop solar power plant.
- Applicants whose monthly electricity consumption stays between 0 and 150 units can opt for a minimum 1.1 kW solar plant.
- If consumption exceeds this level, they may choose a higher-capacity system.
- However, the Rajasthan Government restricts its subsidy to Rs. 17,000 for a 1.1 kW solar plant only, regardless of higher capacity.
- Visit the Official PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana Website and click on Apply Now.
- Register using your mobile number and complete the basic profile information.
- Click on Apply for Solar Rooftop and enter details such as state, district, DISCOM name, and electricity connection number.
- Upload the required documents and submit the application form.
- Select an authorised vendor and provide your bank account details after feasibility approval.
- The selected vendor installs the solar plant on your rooftop and forwards installation details to the concerned DISCOM.
- An Assistant Engineer (AE) from the Rajasthan DISCOM inspects and verifies the installed solar power plant.
- After successful verification, the Central Government credits Rs. 33,000, and the Rajasthan Government credits Rs. 17,000 directly to the applicant's bank account.
- With this combined subsidy support, beneficiaries can install a rooftop solar power plant without any upfront cost and enjoy the benefits of the scheme.
