Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

Vishwakarma Kamgar Kalyan Yojana is a self-employment initiative of the Government of Rajasthan designed to support women, workers and artisans by providing a grant of ₹5,000 for the purchase of modern toolkits, equipment and sewing machines. Implemented statewide by the Industries and Commerce Department, the scheme seeks to empower skilled individuals by enabling them to acquire the essential tools required for independent livelihood and sustainable self-employment.

Many skilled people in Rajasthan, such as handicraft artisans, hair craft workers, clay artisans and members of nomadic communities, have the talent to work on their own but cannot afford proper tools. The objective of the scheme is to help these women, workers, and deprived sections start their own employment by supporting the purchase of essential kits and equipment, and to create new employment opportunities in the state. The notification sets a target of benefiting 1 lakh youth through the scheme.

The Vishwakarma Kamgar Kalyan Scheme is implemented through six boards and departments that select beneficiaries and manage the purchase and distribution of kits. In certain cases, beneficiaries may purchase the toolkit themselves up to ₹5,000 and claim reimbursement against the bill. Applications can be submitted online through the SSO portal or at e-Mitra Kendras.

Applications under the scheme can be submitted online through the SSO portal or at e-Mitra Kendras. To qualify, an applicant must be between 18 and 40 years of age, possess a Jan Aadhaar card, have a family income below ₹3 lakh per annum, and must not have received any toolkit assistance from the central or state government in the preceding two years. The applicant must also be identified by, or hold an identity card issued by, the concerned board or department. No educational qualification is required. In the event that applications exceed the prescribed target, benefits are extended on a first-come, first-served basis.

Like the Rajasthan Vishwakarma Kamgar Kalyan Yojana, the Government of India is implementing the PM Vishwakarma Yojana at the central level, a similar initiative that supports traditional artisans and craftspeople through skill training, a toolkit incentive of up to ₹15,000, and collateral-free credit assistance to enhance their livelihoods.
