Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

• After covering every vertical of the society, the TN government is now focusing on sports development.
• In order to promote sports in Tamil Nadu, the state government has started a new initiative called "Kalaignar Sports Kit Scheme".
• Tamil Nadu State secured a 2nd place in the medal tally after Maharashtra in Khelo India Games and 6th spot in the 38th National Games of India.
• To support players to perform well in sports event, Tamil Nadu Government launched this scheme.
• The scheme was announced by the Sports Minister Shri Udhayanidhi Stalin while attending Valedictory Function in Chennai on 1st of February.
• Kalaignar Sports Kit Scheme of Tamil Nadu Government is launched on 7th of February 2024 in Trichy.
• The main objective behind starting this scheme is to make sure that the performers/ achievers in sports should come from rural area also not from urban area only.
• Sports Department of Tamil Nadu will provide free of cost sports kit to eligible players of Tamil Nadu.
• This will encourage the players to prepare well before games and give a medal winning performance in National or International Sports Events.
• This Free Sports Kit Scheme of Tamil Nadu Government is basically starts to support players of rural area.
• To oversee its implementation, the Department of Youth Welfare and Sports Development is appointed its nodal authority.
• Free Sports Kit will be distributed to students and players of 12,600 village panchayats of Tamil Nadu under Dr. Kalaignar Sports Equipment Scheme.
• Kalaignar Sports Kit consists 33 Items of Exercise and Sports for every village panchayat of Tamil Nadu State.
• Sports Kit will be provided for Cricket, Volleyball, Football, Badminton and Silambam and other sports under Tamil Nadu Government's Kalaignar Sports Kit Thittam.
• Beneficiary Player can apply for Free of Cost Sports Kit under Kalaignar Sports Kit Scheme through Application Form which are available in the Village Panchayat Office.
• No Online Application Form of Kalaignar Sport Kit Scheme is available right now.

Scheme Benefits

• Government of Tamil Nadu will provide the following benefits to players under its Kalaignar Sports Kit Scheme :-

  Free of Cost Sports Kit will be Provided. Sports Kit will be provided for following sports :- Cricket. Volleyball. Football. Badminton. Silambam. Gym. Tennikot. Skipping. Carrom. Chess. Kabaddi.

Eligibility Requirements

• Free of Cost Sports Kit under Kalaignar Sports Kit Scheme will only provided to those player who fulfill the following eligibility conditions sets by sports department of Government of Tamil Nadu :-
  • Beneficiary should be a District/ State/ National Level Player.
  • Player should be a Permanent Resident of Tamil Nadu.
  • Beneficiary Sports Player should be residing in Rural Area.

Required Documents

• The below mentioned documents will have to be attached at the time of applying for free of cost sports kit under Tamil Nadu Government's Kalaignar Sports Kit Scheme :-
  • Residence Proof of Tamil Nadu.
  • Aadhar Card.
  • Mobile Number.
  • Income Certificate.
  • Caste Certificate. (If Applicable)

Steps to Apply

• Eligible Sports Person can apply for free of cost sports kit under Kalaignar Sports Kit Scheme through by applying Application Form.
• Application Form of Kalaignar Sports Kit Scheme is available free of cost at any of the below mentioned offices :-
  • Village/ Gram Panchayat Office.
  • Department of Youth and Welfare District Office.
• Collect the Kalaignar Sports Kit Scheme Application Form and fill it carefully and correctly.
• Attach all the required documents with the Application Form.
• Now submit the application form along with all the documents in the same office from where it was collected.
• Concerned Officials will verify the received application forms and documents.
• List of Selected Students will be made then to distribute free of cost sports kit.
• Sports Person selected for sports kit distribution under Kalaignar Sports Kit Scheme will be informed through SMS on their Mobile Number.
• Respected Gram Panchayat of a Sports Person will distribute the kit to every eligible person.
• Right Now, No Website or Online Application/ Registration Process of Kalaignar Sports Kit Scheme of Tamil Nadu Government is available.
• Beneficiary Youth can contact their District Sports and Youth Welfare Officers for further assistance.
