Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

• The Tamil Nadu Government introduced the Ulagam Ungal Kaiyil Scheme in the state on 5 January 2026.

• For the financial year 2025–2026, the Tamil Nadu Government has earmarked a budget of Rs. 2,000 crore to implement the scheme.

Scheme Benefits

Eligibility Requirement

• The Applicant Student must be a Permanent Resident of Tamil Nadu.
• Only Students studying in the final year of their respective course are eligible to receive the laptop.
• Students must be enrolled in any one of the following Government Educational Institutions :-
  • Arts University or College.
  • Agricultural College or University.
  • Medical University or College.
  • Science or Engineering University/ College.
  • ITI or Polytechnic.
  • Law University/ College.

Steps to Apply

• There is no separate application process for students to receive a free laptop under the Tamil Nadu Government's Ulagam Ungal Kaiyil Thittam.
• The colleges and universities where eligible students are currently enrolled will themselves prepare and forward the list of beneficiaries to the concerned authorities.
• After receiving the details, the concerned department, in coordination with the Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu, will scrutinize and verify the eligibility of the students.
• Once the verification process is completed, the selected students will be provided laptops free of cost during an officially organized public distribution programme.
