Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview
The Marriage Incentive Award Scheme is a social welfare initiative of the Government of Telangana aimed at encouraging marriages involving Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) and promoting their social inclusion and economic empowerment. The scheme provides financial assistance to eligible beneficiaries to help them begin their married life with dignity and financial security.
Prior to 2025, the scheme provided a one-time marriage incentive of ₹1,00,000 when a Person with Disability married a non-disabled person. However, marriages where both the bride and bridegroom were Persons with Disabilities were not covered under the scheme.
To address this gap and ensure equal support for all eligible couples, the Government issued G.O.Ms.No.7 dated 19 May 2025 extending the Marriage Incentive Award Scheme to marriages between two Persons with Disabilities, irrespective of the category of disability. Under the revised provisions, a one-time financial assistance of ₹1,00,000 is sanctioned in the name of the wife when both spouses are Persons with Disabilities.
Further, while presenting the Telangana State Budget for the financial year 2026-27, the Government announced a cash gift of ₹2,00,000 for marriages involving Persons with Disabilities. The announcement aims to provide greater financial assistance to eligible beneficiaries and support them in establishing a secure and independent married life.
Through this scheme, the Government of Telangana seeks to encourage social acceptance of Persons with Disabilities, promote equality of opportunity, and strengthen their participation in mainstream society by providing financial assistance at an important stage of their lives.
The Marriage Incentive Award Scheme forms part of Telangana's broader social welfare framework for Persons with Disabilities. In addition to marriage assistance, eligible beneficiaries can access monthly financial support through the Telangana Aasara Pension Scheme and Telangana Cheyutha Pension Scheme, while those seeking self-employment or livelihood opportunities may benefit from the Telangana Economic Rehabilitation Scheme. Together, these schemes aim to provide financial security, social protection, and economic independence to Persons with Disabilities at different stages of life.
