Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

The Mukhyamantri Old Age Pension Scheme (Vridhjan Pension Yojana) run by the Department of Social Welfare, Government of Bihar, is an important social security scheme for the senior citizens of the state. This scheme has been in force since the financial year 2019-20. Its main objective is to provide financial assistance to all elderly citizens of the state so that they can lead a dignified and secure life. This state-level scheme covers citizens aged 60 years or above belonging to any income group in Bihar. Under the Vridhjan Pension Yojana, the pension amount is sent directly to the beneficiary's bank account through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), which ensures transparency and eliminates the role of middlemen.

The Bihar Mukhyamantri Old Age Pension Yojana is operated through the Social Security Pension Management Information System (SSPMIS) portal. This portal is managed by the State Society for Ultra Poor and Social Welfare (SSUPSW) under the Department of Social Welfare. Through SSPMIS, the entire process of identification, registration, verification, monitoring, and payment of beneficiaries is carried out digitally. According to official data, lakhs of elderly citizens are benefiting under the scheme. From June 2025, the pension amount has been increased to ₹1,100 per month. Earlier, the amount was given as ₹400 (for 60–79 years) and ₹500 (for 80 years and above) according to age.

The Scheme is part of the state's comprehensive social security pension system, which also includes the Central Government's Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme and other state government pension schemes. The Mukhyamantri Vridhjan Pension Yojana is specifically meant for those elderly persons who fulfil the eligibility conditions prescribed by the state government. The success of the scheme is based on a transparent digital process, Aadhaar and EPIC-based verification, and regular DBT payments. Latest Update

The Bihar Government has credited the ₹1,100 monthly social security pension to eligible old-age pensioners through DBT on 10 September 2026. The pension is scheduled to be transferred to beneficiaries' bank accounts on the 10th of every month.

• Currently, beneficiaries are receiving a pension of ₹1,100 per month (effective from June 2025).

Eligibility Requirements

To avail the pension benefit, the applicant must fulfil the prescribed conditions:

• The applicant must be a permanent resident of Bihar state.
• The applicant's age on the date of application must be a minimum of 60 years or above.
• Voter Identity Card (EPIC) is mandatory.
• Aadhaar Card is mandatory. The application is accepted only according to the name, date of birth, and district recorded in Aadhaar.
• Aadhaar consent and bank account details (including consent for DBT use) must be provided.
• The applicant should not be receiving any salary, pension, family pension, or social security pension from the Central/State Government.
• The applicant must have an active bank account linked with Aadhaar.

Steps to Apply

• Applications for the Mukhyamantri Old Age Pension Scheme can be submitted through online or offline mode.
• Applications under the scheme will be accepted online through the Social Security Pension Management Information System website.
• For offline applications, the form can be submitted through the nearest RTPS counter or Kiosk/CSC.

Online Application Process

• Visit the official website and select the scheme from the main page.
  
• Then select registration of a new beneficiary.
  
• For registration, select your district, block, and the scheme from the list.
• Enter the number recorded on the Voter ID Card.
• Enter your Aadhaar number and date of birth, then click on the Aadhaar verification button.
• After Aadhaar verification, select "Start Process".
• Fill the application form of the scheme.
• After filling in the details, upload the necessary documents (such as Aadhaar Card, bank passbook, Aadhaar consent document, photograph, Voter Card) in the designated places.
• Finally, give approval to the terms and conditions and proceed.
• Before final submission, carefully check the details.
• The submitted application will be sent for verification to the Panchayat (rural) and the Department of Social Welfare (urban).
• All applicants found successful in the verification process will receive the pension in their bank account.
• The status of the submitted application can be checked online.

Offline Mode

• Beneficiaries can also submit the application offline at the nearest RTPS counter.
• For this, the applicant should obtain the application form of the scheme from their Gram Panchayat / Social Welfare Office.
• Fill in all the details correctly in the application form.
• Attach all the required documents with the application form and submit it at the RTPS counter.

Check Application Status

• First, go to the SSPMIS portal.
• Click on the Search Application Status" link.
• Enter any one of the following – Beneficiary ID / Sanction No. / Account No. / Aadhaar No. - and click on Application Status.
• After this, the status of your application will appear on the screen.
