Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview
The Disability Pension is given by the Karnataka Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board to help registered construction workers who become partially disabled due to an accident or illness at the worksite. Under this, eligible workers receive a monthly pension of ₹2,000. They may also get a one-time ex-gratia amount of up to ₹2,00,000 based on their percentage of disability.
To get this benefit, the worker should not have already taken accident benefits for the same disability. The worker must also have a valid disability ID card issued by the Department for the Empowerment of Differently Abled and Senior Citizens.
The application must be submitted through the Seva Sindhu portal. After checking the details and eligibility, the authorized officer approves the pension and issues a sanction order along with a Disability Pension Identity Card and a unique DPPO number.
The ex-gratia amount is decided based on the percentage of disability certified by the concerned department. The pension amount is directly transferred to the worker's bank account.
To continue receiving the pension, the beneficiary must submit a Living Certificate every year. The pension will stop once the worker reaches 60 years of age.
If the worker is not eligible, the application may be rejected after giving a chance to explain. In case of the worker's death, the Board must be informed with a death certificate so that the pension account can be closed.
Construction workers in Karnataka can also check other welfare schemes such as the Karnataka Thayi Magu Sahaya Hastha Scheme and the Karnataka Pension Scheme for Construction Workers, which provide additional financial and social security benefits to eligible beneficiaries.
