Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

The Mahadevi Verma Shramik Pustak Kraya Dhan Yojana was launched in 2022 by the Government of Uttar Pradesh and is implemented by the Labour Welfare Board under the Department of Labour. The scheme aims to support higher education by providing financial assistance for the purchase of academic books.

Under this scheme, a one-time financial assistance of Rs 7,500 is provided to dependent daughters of workers who are employed in establishments registered under the Shops and Establishments Act, 1962 or the Factories Act, 1948, in Uttar Pradesh, and who are pursuing postgraduate studies.

A maximum of two daughters per worker family can avail the benefit. In the case of a female worker pursuing postgraduate education herself, she is also eligible to receive the benefit directly.

Apart from this, the Government of Uttar Pradesh implements several welfare schemes for construction and registered workers to provide social, financial, and cultural support across different life needs. These include schemes such as the:

• Dattopant Thengadi Mratak Shramik Aarthik Sahayata Yojana (financial assistance on death),
• Chetan Chauhan Shramik Krida Protsahan Yojana (promotion of sports among workers),
• Raja Harishchandra Shramik Mratak Antyeshti Sahayata Yojana (funeral assistance),
• Jyotiba Phule Shramik Kanyadan Yojana (support for daughters' marriages), and
• Shravan Kumar Shramik Parivar Tirth Yatra Yojana (pilgrimage support for workers' families).

Like others, the applications for the Mahadevi Verma Shramik Pustak Kraya Dhan Yojana are submitted online through the official Labour Welfare Board portal. After submission, the application must be printed and duly verified by the educational institution and the employer before final upload.

Scheme Benefits

• Female students pursuing postgraduate studies in any stream will receive financial assistance for purchasing books.
• Each eligible student will receive Rs 7,500 as a one-time support.

Eligibility Requirements

• The worker must be employed in an establishment registered under the Shops and Establishments Act, 1962 or the Factories Act, 1948, in Uttar Pradesh.
• The worker's monthly salary (basic pay + dearness allowance) must not exceed Rs 24,000.
• The worker must have completed at least six months of continuous service in the same establishment and must be employed at the time of application.
• The benefit is limited to a maximum of two dependent daughters per worker.
• If the worker is a female and is herself pursuing postgraduate studies, she is eligible to apply.
• If both parents are employed in registered establishments, only one parent can claim the benefit.

Required Documents

• Printed copy of the online application form, duly verified by the educational institution and employer.
• Self-attested and clearly readable copy of the beneficiary's bank passbook showing account number and IFSC code.
• Proof of dependency (ration card, family register, or other government record).
• Self-attested and clearly readable copies of Aadhaar cards of both parents.
• Self-attested copy of the fee receipt for the postgraduate course.

Steps to Apply

• Visit the official website of the Labour Welfare Board, Department of Labour, Uttar Pradesh.
• Click on "Shramik Application".
• If you are a new user, select "Register New User", fill in the form, and submit.
• Your User ID and password will be sent to your mobile number.
• Log in with your User ID and password.
• Select the "Mahadevi Verma Shramik Pustak Kraya Dhan Yojana" scheme, fill out the form, upload your photograph, and submit.
• Print a copy of your submitted application.
• Get the printed form verified by your educational institution and your parents' workplace.
• Log in again, go to "Scheme Application Details", and upload the verified form and all required documents. Save your submission.
• You can check your application status anytime under "Application Status".
