Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), a Central University established by an Act of Parliament and located in New Delhi, runs one of India's most respected free coaching programmes for Civil Services aspirants. Through its Residential Coaching Academy (RCA) under the Centre for Coaching and Career Planning, JMI offers completely free coaching for the Civil Services Examination (Preliminary and Mains) to students from Minority communities, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Women.

The Civil Services Examination, conducted annually by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), is the most competitive exam in India. Lakhs of students appear every year, and quality coaching from a reputed institute can cost upward of one to two lakhs of rupees. This financial barrier keeps many deserving candidates — especially those from economically weaker and marginalised communities- from preparing effectively. JMI's RCA programme directly addresses this gap by providing not just free coaching, but also compulsory hostel accommodation, a 24×7 air-conditioned library, mock interviews, test series, and more, all under one roof.

For the session 2026-2027, JMI has released the official notification. The online application portal opens on 1st April 2026, and the last date to submit the application form is 26th May 2026. The entrance test is scheduled for 6th June 2026. Classes are expected to begin on 1st September 2026.

To secure admission, candidates must clear an All India Entrance Test conducted by JMI on the UPSC model. The test will be held across 13 cities in India. Admission is based purely on merit, and only 100 seats are available for the entire programme.

Eligibility Requirements

• Must have completed graduation and be eligible to apply for the Civil Services Examination 2027.
• Must belong to one of the following categories:
  • Scheduled Caste (SC)
  • Scheduled Tribe (ST)
  • Women (all categories)
  • Notified Minority Communities: Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis (Zoroastrians)
• Candidates currently pursuing any regular course from any institution are not eligible.
• Candidates currently employed in any organisation are not eligible.

Syllabus of the JMI RCA Civil Services Entrance Exam

• The entrance exam has two papers, Paper I and Paper II, conducted on the UPSC model.
• Paper-I (General Studies — Objective Type):
  • 60 questions of 1 mark each (Total: 60 marks)
  • Includes CSAT questions
  • Topics: General Awareness, Logical & Critical Thinking, Reasoning, Comprehension
  • Negative marking applies — 1/3 mark deducted per wrong answer
  • Duration: 1 hour (10:00 AM – 11:00 AM)
  • Candidates may take the question paper with them
• Paper-II (Essay Writing):
  • Candidates write two essays — 30 marks each (Total: 60 marks)
  • Duration: 2 hours (11:00 AM – 1:00 PM)
  • Only essays of the top 900 candidates (based on Paper-I MCQ scores) will be evaluated
• Both papers are available in English, Hindi, and Urdu.
• Total exam duration: 3 hours. Total marks: 120 (written) + 30 (interview) = 150.
• Personality Test (Interview): 30 marks. Conducted offline only. In case of a tie, higher interview marks decide the seat. If still tied, the younger candidate (age-wise) gets preference.

Steps to Apply

• Candidates can apply for the JMI RCA Civil Services Free Coaching Programme 2026-27 only through the official online portal. There is no offline mode of application. Follow the steps given below carefully to complete your application:

  • Visit the Official Portal: Go to https://admission.jmi.ac.in/ and look for the RCA All India Entrance Test 2026-27 link. The portal opens on 1st April 2026.
  • Register Yourself: Click on the registration or sign-up option. Fill in your basic details:
    • Full Name
    • Date of Birth
    • Gender
    • Father's Name and Mother's Name
    • Email ID (active — all communications go here)
    • Mobile Number
    • Create and confirm your password
    • Fill the Captcha and click Sign Up
  • Log In to the Application Form: Use your registered Email ID and password to log in. Open the application form for the RCA Civil Services Coaching Programme 2026-27.
  • Fill the Application Form: Enter all required details carefully — personal information, educational qualifications, category (SC/ST/Minority/Women), and choice of examination city.
  • Upload Documents: Upload your scanned photograph and signature in the prescribed format as mentioned on the portal.
  • Pay the Application Fee: Pay the non-refundable application fee of Rs. 1,325/- + applicable bank charges using credit card, debit card, or net banking.
  • Submit and Save: Review all the filled details once before final submission. After successful payment, submit the form. Save or print the confirmation page for future reference.
  • Editing Window: If you need to make any corrections, the portal will reopen for editing on 29th and 30th May 2026.
  • Download Admit Card: Keep checking the official portal for the admit card. Download and print it before the exam date (6th June 2026).
  • Appear for the Entrance Test: Carry your admit card and a valid photo ID to the exam centre. Prepare well — Paper-I covers General Studies and CSAT; Paper-II tests essay writing ability.

Features of the Program

• There will be an entrance test to secure admission to this programme.
• Admission will be on the basis of merit only.
• There will be two papers in the entrance test.
• The written test will be in English, Hindi and Urdu.
• The duration of the test will be 3 hours.
• There will be negative marking for objective-type questions, i.e. for the Paper 1.
• 1/3 marks will be deducted for a wrong answer.
• Paper 1 is of an objective type and consists of general awareness, logical thinking, reasoning, and comprehension.
• Paper 2 will consist of essay writing.
• The total marks of the exam, including both the papers is 120.
• Essays of only the top 900 students will be evaluated based on an objective-type test of Paper 1.
• The total marks for the Interview/personality test will be 30.
• In case of a tie, higher marks in the interview will be taken as the basis of selection.
• If there is still a tie, then the younger student will get the seat.
• Any candidate who has availed the facilities of the Residential Coaching Academy of Jamia Millia Islamia for three years and has never appeared for the Civil Services Interview (UPSC) need not to fill the form and appear for the entrance test.
• Only those candidates who have already completed their graduation and are eligible to apply in Civil Services 2027 need to apply for the Residential Coaching Academy, Jamia Millia Islamia.
• Residential Coaching Academy will also conduct mock interviews for those who qualify for the personality test in Civil Services.
• The test series (for preliminary examination) will be conducted from January 2027 to May 2027.
• The test Series (for mains examination) will be conducted from June 2027 to August 2027.
• 24*7 air conditioned library facility will be provided to the students.
• The sports complex for the Residential Coaching Academy's students will also be available as per the rules of the university.
• Only 100 seats are available in this coaching programme.
• Hostel accommodation is mandatory and will be provided to all admitted students.
• In case of shortage, hostel seats will be allotted in a phased manner, on the basis of merit determined by the entrance test.
• Maintenance charge of Rs. 1,000/- per month (to be paid in advance for at least six months i.e. Rs. 6,000/-) and Mess Charges in the range of Rs. 2500/- to Rs. 3000/- per month in advance will be paid by the students.
• Also, Rs. 7,000/- will be paid as a security money, which is refundable.
• The application has to be submitted online with a fee of Rs. 1,325/- or + applicable bank charges.
• The date of the entrance test is tentative and may be changed due to unforeseen circumstances.
