Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

The Manipur Old Age Pension Scheme (MOAPS) is a state-sponsored welfare scheme implemented by the Department of Social Welfare, Government of Manipur. It provides monthly financial assistance of ₹200 to elderly, infirm, and destitute persons who have no adequate source of income or family support. The scheme operates independently of the centrally sponsored Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme (IGNOAPS) under the National Social Assistance Programme and aims to offer basic financial security to senior citizens living in difficult circumstances.

The scheme covers old-aged persons, destitute individuals, and eligible widows who do not have any income of their own or any person legally responsible for their support. If both husband and wife are destitute, each of them can apply and receive the pension separately, ensuring that both partners receive individual support.

The eligibility age for applicants under the Manipur Old Age Pension Scheme is 60 years or above. Applicants must be Indian citizens and should have been continuous residents of Manipur for a period exceeding ten years at the time of making the application. The main objective of the scheme is to provide monthly financial support to elderly and destitute persons so that they can meet their basic needs with dignity and lead a more secure life in their old age.

Eligible applicants can submit their applications to the concerned District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO). Application forms are available free of cost at all District Social Welfare Offices across Manipur and can also be downloaded from the official website of the Social Welfare Department. Applications are currently open, and eligible persons are advised to submit the completed form along with the required documents at the earliest to avail the benefit without delay.

Latest Update:- Applications for Manipur Old Age Pension Scheme are open from 22 September 2026 to 31 October 2026 as per the official notification dated 21 September 2026. 

Scheme Benefits

The scheme provides the following verified benefits:

• ₹200 per month is provided as financial assistance to each eligible MOAPS beneficiary.
• If both husband and wife are destitute and meet the scheme conditions, both may receive the pension individually.
• The scheme is intended to support elderly and destitute persons who lack adequate personal income or legally liable support.

Eligibility Requirements

The main eligibility conditions verified by the Manipur Social Welfare Department are:

• The applicant must be 60 years of age or above.
• The applicant must be an Indian citizen.
• A destitute old-aged applicant must have been a resident of Manipur for more than 10 years at the time of application.
• The applicant should be an old-aged or destitute person without an income or source of income of their own or support from anyone legally liable to maintain them.
• Widows without a source of income, including income from property, are eligible. The rules also explicitly state that a widow who has an earning brother is eligible.
• The scheme also covers senior citizens aged 60 years and above from low-income groups who are not retired government servants.

Required Documents

According to the MOAP application form currently hosted by the Manipur Social Welfare Department, applicants need:

• Aadhaar Card details
• Bank account details
• Income Certificate issued by the competent officer or NFSA card details
• Two passport-size photographs
• Age proof certificate issued by the competent authority

Steps to Apply

Eligible applicants can follow the steps below to apply for the Manipur Old Age Pension Scheme during the current application period:

• Obtain the prescribed MOAP application form from the concerned District Social Welfare Office or download it from the Social Welfare Department's official website.
• Fill in the application form and attach the required supporting documents, including Aadhaar, bank details, income-related proof, photographs, and age proof.
• The application form provides for a recommendation by the local leader/Panchayat Secretary at village level.
• Submit the completed application to the concerned District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO) during the prescribed application period.
• The DSWO examines and scrutinises the application and records the recommendation on the prescribed form.
• Incomplete applications or applications submitted after the prescribed period may not be considered.

Note: The last date to apply for the Manipur Old Age Pension Scheme is 31 October 2026. Applicants are advised to submit their applications well before the deadline.
