Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

The Government of Manipur runs the Chief Minister Widow Pension Scheme (CMWPS) through the Department of Social Welfare to provide monthly financial assistance to eligible widows and certain HIV-positive women in the state. The scheme is intended to provide social security and financial support to economically weaker women who are not covered under other government beneficiary-oriented schemes. The Department of Social Welfare, Manipur, is responsible for implementing the scheme. It continues to list the CMWPS among its pension schemes and provides the prescribed application form through its official website.

The main objective of the scheme is to provide social security through financial assistance to widows living below the poverty line. Widows who have no pension or support from any other government scheme often struggle to meet their daily needs after losing their husband. The CMWPS gives these women a fixed monthly income so that they can manage their basic expenses with dignity.

Under the CM Widow Pension Scheme, an eligible beneficiary receives financial assistance of ₹500 per month. The scheme assists eligible widows in the 40 to 59 years age group. HIV-positive widows aged 18 to 59 years are also covered under the relevant eligibility provisions. The scheme is intended for women belonging to the economically weaker section, and the prescribed application form requires income-related information and supporting proof. 

The CMWPS is currently accepting applications under a fresh notification issued by the Directorate of Social Welfare, Manipur, dated 21 September 2026. Applications are invited for the Chief Minister Widow Pension Scheme (CMWPS). Eligible applicants are required to submit the prescribed application form with supporting documents to the concerned District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO) during the notified application period. 

Along with the Chief Minister Widow Pension Scheme, the Social Welfare Department is also accepting applications under the Manipur Old Age Pension Scheme and the Ima Nongthangleima Yaipha Tengbang Scheme during the same period. Under the Manipur Old Age Pension Scheme, eligible senior citizens aged 60 years and above receive a monthly pension of ₹200. The Ima Nongthangleima Yaipha Tengbang Scheme provides ₹500 per month to eligible women above 40 years of age who have no source of livelihood

Latest Update: As per the official notification dated 21st September 2026, applications are open from 22nd September to 31st October 2026. Eligible women applicants are advised to apply before the last date.

Scheme Benefits

The CM Widow Pension Scheme gives regular financial help to poor widows. Here are the main benefits.

• Monthly Pension: ₹500 per month to each eligible widow.
• Support for HIV-Positive Widows: HIV-positive widows can get the pension from the age of 18 years.
• Support for Displaced Widows: Displaced widows living in relief camps in different districts also receive benefits.
• Bank Account Linked: The application form collects the widow's bank account number and IFSC code.
• Statewide Coverage: The scheme covers both Hill and Valley districts of Manipur.

Eligibility Requirements

A widow must meet all the following conditions to receive a pension under the Chief Minister Widow Pension Scheme.

• The applicant must be a widow.
• She must be a resident of Manipur.
• She must belong to a family living below the poverty line.
• She must be between 40 and 59 years of age.
• HIV-positive widows aged 18 to 59 years are also eligible.
• She must enclose an annual income certificate issued by the SDC, SDO, or BDO concerned, or provide NFSA card details.

Required Documents

Keep the following documents ready before you fill in the Manipur widow pension application form.

• Aadhaar card details
• Bank account details (account number, branch name and IFSC code)
• Husband's death certificate issued by the Registrar of Births and Deaths
• Annual income certificate issued by the SDC, SDO or BDO concerned, or NFSA card details (card number, family ID and member ID)
• Age proof certificate issued by a competent authority
• HIV certificate (only for HIV-positive applicants)
• Two passport-size photographs
• Active mobile number

Steps to Apply

Applications for the Chief Minister Widow Pension Scheme can be submitted offline through the prescribed application form. Eligible applicants can follow the steps below to submit their application.

• Collect the prescribed CMWPS application form from your concerned District Social Welfare Office, or download it from the Downloads section of the Department of Social Welfare website.
• In Section A, fill in the details of your late husband, such as his name, father's name, gender, age at the time of death, address, and village.
• In Section B, fill in your own details, such as your name, date of birth (with proof), gender, address, Gram Panchayat, ward or locality, and village.
• Enter your annual income and enclose the income certificate issued by the SDC, SDO, or BDO concerned.
• Fill in your NFSA card number, family ID, and member ID.
• Fill in your Aadhaar number, mobile number, bank branch name, bank account number, and IFSC code carefully.
• Answer the question on HIV status and enclose the certificate if you are an HIV-positive applicant.
• Sign the form or put your thumb impression.
• Get the form countersigned by the Verification Officer, who must write his or her name and designation.
• Attach all the required documents along with two passport-size photographs.
• Check that your application is complete before you submit it, because the department may not consider incomplete applications.

Note:- Applicants are advised to submit the completed form to the concerned District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO) between 22nd September 2026 and 31st October 2026.
