Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

The Funeral Expense and Ex-Gratia Assistance Scheme is provided by the Karnataka Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board to support the family of a deceased registered construction worker. The scheme ensures immediate financial assistance to meet funeral expenses and provides an ex-gratia amount to reduce the financial hardship caused by the sudden demise of the worker.

Under this scheme, the nominee of the deceased worker receives ₹4,000 for funeral expenses and ₹1,46,000 as ex-gratia assistance, which is for deaths on or after 16-07-2025 and ₹71,000 for deaths prior to that date. The benefit is directly transferred to the nominee's bank account through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

The application must be submitted online through the official Labour Department portal in Form XVIII within one year from the date of death. Only the registered nominee recorded in the Labour Board database is eligible to apply.

The scheme also integrates with the Accident Assistance Scheme. If the cause of death is selected as "Accident Death," the system automatically processes eligibility for both Funeral Assistance and Accident Assistance, eliminating the need for a separate application.

After verification by labour officials and approval by the competent authority, the amount is sanctioned and transferred to the nominee's account.
