Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

The Marriage Assistance Scheme is a welfare program introduced by the Karnataka Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board under the Department of Labour, Government of Karnataka. The scheme is designed to provide financial support to registered construction workers to help them meet marriage expenses for themselves or their dependent children.

Under this scheme, an amount of ₹60,000 is provided as financial assistance for a marriage. This support helps reduce the financial burden on workers in the unorganised construction sector, where managing such expenses can often be difficult.

To be eligible, the applicant must be a registered construction worker and should have completed at least one year of registration with the Board before the date of marriage. The benefit can be availed for the worker's own marriage or for the marriage of up to two dependent children. However, a family can avail this assistance only twice, and only one claim is allowed for each marriage, even if more than one member of the family is registered with the Board. The son or daughter must be of legal age for marriage, and a valid marriage registration certificate must be submitted.

The application must be submitted within six months from the date of marriage. All applications are subject to verification as per the rules of the Board, and upon approval, the financial assistance is directly transferred to the beneficiary's bank account.

Construction workers registered with the Welfare Board can also benefit from several other social security and welfare schemes introduced for their well-being and family support. These include the Karnataka Pension Scheme for Construction Workers, which provides monthly financial assistance to eligible workers after reaching a certain age, helping them maintain financial stability in old age. Similarly, the Karnataka Thayi Magu Sahaya Hastha Scheme offers maternity assistance and healthcare support to female construction workers and their newborn children during pregnancy and after childbirth.
