Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview
The Telangana New Employees Health Scheme (NEHS) is a comprehensive cashless healthcare programme launched by the Government of Telangana to provide quality medical treatment to Government employees, service pensioners, family pensioners, and their eligible dependent family members. The scheme has been introduced to deliver more transparent, sustainable, and efficient healthcare services by addressing the shortcomings of the earlier Employees Health Scheme (EHS). Under NEHS, beneficiaries can receive cashless treatment through 114 Government hospitals, 886 empanelled private hospitals, and Wellness Centres without worrying about the financial burden of medical expenses. The scheme currently covers around 17,88,336 beneficiaries, including 4,38,594 Government employees, 3,61,955 pensioners, and approximately 9.88 lakh eligible dependent family members.
The Government has strengthened the scheme by introducing 1,816 approved medical and surgical packages in line with the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS), enabling beneficiaries to access quality treatment at leading corporate hospitals across Telangana. Along with the launch of the scheme, the Government also introduced the NEHS Web Portal and issued Digital Health Cards, allowing eligible beneficiaries to download their NEHS health card, and avail cashless treatment through a completely digital process. The scheme does not prescribe any upper financial limit for approved treatments and also provides outpatient healthcare services through dedicated Wellness Centres.
The Telangana New Employees Health Scheme is implemented through the Employees Health Care Trust (EHCT), which includes representation from the Government, employees, and pensioners to ensure transparent administration of the scheme. To ensure its long-term sustainability, eligible Government employees and pensioners contribute 1.5% of their Basic Pay or Basic Pension towards the Employees Health Scheme Fund, while the Government provides an equal matching contribution. The entire process, from pre-authorisation to claim settlement, is carried out digitally through the NEHS portal, ensuring faster and more transparent healthcare services.
The Telangana New Employees Health Scheme complements several other welfare initiatives of the State Government, including the Telangana Rajiv Aarogyasri Scheme, Telangana Indiramma Family Life Insurance Scheme, and Telangana Farm Loan Waiver Scheme, which together aim to improve healthcare access, financial security, and the overall well-being of eligible beneficiaries.
If you are a Telangana Government employee or pensioner, this guide explains the Telangana New Employees Health Scheme (NEHS) eligibility, benefits, employee contribution, approved treatment packages, empanelled hospitals, Wellness Centres, and the Digital Health Card download process.
