Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

  • On the birth anniversary of India's Iron Lady, Late Smt. Indira Gandhi, Telangana Chief Minister Shri Revanth Reddy introduced one of the state's most significant welfare initiatives for women.
  • The government launched this programme as the Indiramma Saree Scheme on 19 November 2025.
  • Through this scheme, the Telangana Government aims to support women by providing them with brand-new sarees, easing everyday household needs and honouring women's dignity.
  • As reflected in the name itself, the government will supply sarees free of cost to eligible women under the Indiramma Saree Distribution Scheme.
  • The programme operates on a massive scale, with the government planning to distribute one crore sarees to one crore women across Telangana.
  • Out of the total beneficiaries, around 65 lakh women belong to rural areas, while nearly 35 lakh women reside in urban and municipal regions.
  • Considering the wide reach of the scheme, the government decided to roll it out in two distinct phases.
  • The first phase began on 19 November 2025 and will conclude on 9 December 2025, which coincides with Telangana Talli Avatarana Day.
  • During this phase, the government will distribute sarees exclusively to rural women, covering approximately 65 lakh beneficiaries.
  • The second phase of the Indiramma Mahila Shakti Saree Distribution Scheme, will run from 1 March 2026 to 8 March 2026, marking International Women's Day.
  • In this phase, the government will provide free sarees only to urban women residents, benefiting nearly 35 lakh women.
  • Handloom workers from Sircilla will produce the sarees distributed under this scheme, giving a boost to traditional weaving communities.
  • For smooth implementation, the District Administration will organise distribution camps—working with Gram Panchayats in rural areas and Municipal Corporations in urban areas, according to the respective phase.
  • Women beneficiaries can visit these camps and collect their sarees free of cost after completing Aadhaar verification and facial authentication.
  • For any assistance or clarification related to the scheme, beneficiaries may directly approach the district-level officials present at the camps.
  • Women belonging to the minority community can also apply for other welfare schemes of the Telangana Government which are "Indiramma Minority Mahila Yojana" and "Sewing Machine Scheme".
