Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview
The Uttar Pradesh SWD Free Coaching Scheme for Civil Service is an important initiative of the Social Welfare Department, Uttar Pradesh. People also know this scheme as the UP Pre-Examination Training Centres Scheme. The government launched this scheme to help financially weak students prepare for UPSC, IAS, PCS, Judicial Services, and other competitive examinations.
The scheme mainly supports students belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC). Many talented students from these communities cannot afford expensive private coaching institutes. Through this scheme, the Uttar Pradesh Government provides free quality coaching and residential academic support to deserving aspirants.
Apart from the Uttar Pradesh Pre-Examination Training Centers Scheme, the Uttar Pradesh Government also runs the Mukhyamantri Abhyudaya Yojana to provide free coaching for competitive examinations such as UPSC, UPPCS, NEET, JEE, NDA, CDS, SSC, Banking, and other recruitment examinations. Through these initiatives, the state government aims to help economically weaker students access quality coaching and improve their chances of selection in prestigious examinations and government jobs.
Under the UP Free IAS PCS Coaching Scheme 2026, selected candidates receive free classroom coaching, hostel accommodation, mess facilities, library access, mentorship support, mock tests, answer writing practice, and interview guidance. The department has also introduced special coaching programmes, mains examination preparation, and performance evaluation to improve the success rate of students in UPSC and UPPCS examinations.
The Social Welfare Department operates government coaching centres in Lucknow, Hapur, Varanasi, Aligarh, Prayagraj, and Gorakhpur. These centres function as residential institutions and provide a proper academic environment for competitive examination preparation. For the 2026 coaching session, the department has announced a total of 865 seats across different coaching centres in Uttar Pradesh.
Admission under the scheme takes place through a Joint Entrance Examination conducted by the Social Welfare Department, Uttar Pradesh. Candidates who qualify in the entrance examination receive admission based on merit, category, and coaching centre preference selected during the application process. The entrance examination syllabus follows the latest UPSC and UPPCS preliminary examination pattern and includes subjects such as History, Geography, Polity, Economy, General Science, Current Affairs, Reasoning, Mathematics, Environment, English, and General Hindi.
For the 2026 coaching session, online applications started on 18 May 2026 and will continue till 18 June 2026. The entrance examination will take place on 05 July 2026. Admit cards will be available from 25 June 2026, while the expected result declaration date is 28 July 2026. The new coaching session will begin in August 2026.
Through this scheme, the Uttar Pradesh Government aims to increase the participation of SC, ST, and OBC candidates in administrative services and other prestigious government positions. The scheme allows deserving students to prepare for civil services examinations without worrying about expensive coaching costs.
