Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

The Uttarakhand Sanskrit Chhatr Pratibha Samman Yojana, also known as the Uttarakhand Sanskrit Student Talent Honour Scheme, is a focused state-level initiative implemented by the Uttarakhand Sanskrit Academy, Haridwar, under the Department of Sanskrit Education, Government of Uttarakhand. Its primary purpose is to recognise and reward academic excellence in Sanskrit, thereby encouraging students to deepen their engagement with the language and pursue higher studies in it.

Under the scheme, students who secure the first, second, or third positions in Sanskrit across multiple levels of education receive cash awards of ₹5,100, ₹4,100, and ₹3,100 respectively, along with a certificate of honour. The covered examinations include High School and Intermediate under the Uttarakhand Vidyalaya Shiksha Parishad, Purva Madhyama and Uttar Madhyama under the Uttarakhand Sanskrit Shiksha Parishad, Shastri and Acharya examinations conducted by institutions such as Uttarakhand Sanskrit University, Haridwar and the Central Sanskrit University campus at Devprayag, as well as graduate and postgraduate programmes based on performance in the Sanskrit subject.

The Academy identifies eligible students by corresponding with the secretaries of the relevant boards for High School and Intermediate results and with the examination controllers or registrars of universities for graduate and postgraduate levels. A formal honour ceremony is organised, payment is made by cheque, and recipients are also presented with a certificate of appreciation.

During the International Sanskrit Conference held in Haridwar in December 2025, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami highlighted the Uttarakhand government's efforts to promote and strengthen Sanskrit education in the state. He stated that under the Sanskrit Chhatra Pratibha Samman Yojana, students securing the highest marks in Sanskrit in the High School and Intermediate examinations are honoured based on merit, with ₹5,100 for first position, ₹4,100 for second position, and ₹3,100 for third position. The government is also promoting Sanskrit through scholarships, academic and research initiatives, and the development of model Sanskrit villages across Uttarakhand.
