Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

• The Haryana Cheerag Scheme is a major educational reform scheme launched by the Haryana Government on July 1, 2022.
• Cheerag in the Cheerag Scheme stands for "Chief Minister Equal Education Relief Assistance and Grant Scheme".
• The primary objective of the Haryana Cheerag Scheme is to provide quality education to economically weaker students by enrolling them in Private Schools.
• Cheerag Scheme is also known by names like "Haryana Cheerag Yojana" or "Mukhyamantri Haryana Saman Shiksha, Rahat Evam Anudan Yojana".
• Department of Elementary Education of the Haryana Government is the nodal department of this scheme.
• Under this scheme, the state government of Haryana covers the fees of students who want to study in private schools.
• For this, the state government will reimburse the fees to the respective schools.
• Eligible Students can avail free education from Class 6th to Class 12th in private schools listed under the Haryana Cheerag Scheme.
• Students who have completed their last examination from a Government School are eligible for the scheme.
• Additionally, the annual family income of the student must be less than the prescribed limit, i.e. 1,80,000/-.
• The list of schools under the Cheerag Scheme for the academic year 2026 can be checked online from the Haryana Education Department Portal.
• The scheme currently covers students from Class 6th to Class 12th.
• It is worth noting that the scheme initially covered students from Class 3rd onwards, but the government gradually removed the lower classes.
• Class 3rd was removed in 2024, Class 4th in 2025, and Class 5th in 2026.
• Right now, there is no Official Website of the Cheerag Scheme, and there is no Online Application Procedure of the Cheerag Scheme.
• Eligible Students can apply for admission in Class 6th to Class 12th through the Offline Application Form.
• Offline Application Form of Cheerag Scheme can be obtained from the respective school listed on the guidelines.
• Students can apply for the same block where they are studying and can submit applications for more than one school.
• Eligible students can submit their Cheerag Scheme Applications from March 13, 2026.
• The last date to receive applications under the Cheerag Scheme is 30 March 2026.
• If the number of applicants exceeds the available seats, a lottery draw will be conducted between April 1 and April 5, 2026.
• The Draw will be conducted by the respective schools in the presence of parents, who will be informed about the date and time in advance.
• Schools will complete the admission process for students selected under the scheme by 15 April 2026.
• If a selected student takes admission before the last date, the vacant seat will be offered to the students on the waiting list.
• The Admission process for vacant seats will be completed between 16 April and 30 April 2026.

Scheme Benefits

• Under the Haryana Cheerag Scheme, beneficiaries are entitled to the following benefits : -
  • Free Education in a private school to eligible students.
  • Free Education applies to Class 6th to Class 12th.
  • The government of Haryana will bear the fees of Selected Students.

Eligibility Requirements

• To apply for the Haryana Cheerag Scheme, a student must meet all of the following conditions:
  • The student must be a permanent resident of Haryana.
  • The family's annual income must be below Rs. 1,80,000.
  • The student must belong to the Economically Weaker Section (EWS).
  • Neither parent should be employed in a government job.
  • The student must have passed their previous class from a Government School.
  • The student must be seeking admission to Class 6th through Class 12th in a private school.
  • The student can only apply for schools within the same block where they are currently studying.
  • The student must have a valid Parivar Pehchan Patra (PPP).

Note on Income Limit: In 2026, the government announced an increase in the annual family income limit to Rs. 8 lakh. However, this notice was later withdrawn, and the income limit remains at Rs. 1,80,000 as before.

Required Documents

• The following documents are required at the time of applying for the Haryana Cheerag Scheme :-
  • Residence Proof of Haryana.
  • Child Aadhar Card.
  • Parivar Pehchan Patra ID.
  • Birth Certificate of Child.
  • EWS Certificate. (Not older than 6 months as of the admission date, 1 April)
  • Parents Aadhar Card or Voter ID Card.
  • School Leaving Certificate from Previous School.
  • Income Certificate.
  • Passport Size Photo of Child.
  • Mobile Number.

Steps to Apply

• Eligible Students can avail the benefit of free of cost education in private school by filling out the Application Form of Cheerag Scheme.
• Haryana Cheerag Scheme Application Form is available at the listed Private Schools Office.
• Collect the Application Form of Cheerag Scheme and fill it carefully.
• Attach all the required documents with the Application Form.
• Now submit the Cheerag Yojana Application Form along with all the documents to the office of that private school in which the student is willing to take admission.
• School Admission Authorities will scrutinise the received application forms and documents.
• Information of Selected Students under Cheerag Scheme will be uploaded on the MIS Portal by the School Authorities.
• Parents of Child will get an SMS in case of selection of student for admission.
