Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

The UP Motorized Tricycle Scheme provides financial assistance to eligible persons with disabilities in Uttar Pradesh to help them obtain a motorized tricycle and improve their mobility. The scheme was introduced under the Uttar Pradesh rules for providing free motorized tricycles to eligible persons with disabilities, 2020. It aims to support the economic and social rehabilitation of persons with disabilities who face mobility-related difficulties. Under the current provisions, eligible beneficiaries can receive assistance of ₹25,000 towards the cost of a motorized tricycle. If the tricycle costs more than ₹25,000, the beneficiary pays the difference themselves, though this extra amount can also be arranged through an MLA or MP local area development fund, or through CSR contributions.

The UP Motorized Tricycle Scheme covers persons with disabilities who meet the prescribed disability, age, income and physical fitness conditions. The applicant must have 80% or more disability certified by the competent medical authority and must be physically capable of sitting on and operating the motorized tricycle. The prescribed annual income limit is ₹1.80 lakh, and applicants must fulfil the applicable Uttar Pradesh residence and age conditions. Eligible students studying in High School or higher classes can also receive the motorized tricycle benefit, subject to the prescribed conditions.

Eligible applicants can apply for the UP Motorized Tricycle Scheme online through the official Uttar Pradesh Divyangjan Empowerment Department portal. The current application form is for the 2026–27 financial year and requires applicants to provide personal, residential, income, disability and Aadhaar/UDID details. Applicants must also upload the prescribed documents, including the disability certificate, residence certificate, income certificate, Aadhaar or other prescribed certificate, caste certificate, photograph and signature/thumb impression. Students must additionally upload an educational institution certificate. The department scrutinizes applications and verifies eligibility before providing the benefit according to the prescribed procedure and available funds.

Along with the UP Motorized Tricycle Scheme, the Uttar Pradesh government has also provided for a separate Divyang Girls E-Tricycle Grant Scheme for eligible girl students with disabilities. The current departmental portal provides separate application options for Motorized Tricycle and E-Tricycle. Applicants should therefore select the appropriate option according to the scheme applicable to them.

Scheme Benefits

• Eligible beneficiaries get a grant of ₹25,000, or the tricycle's actual price, whichever is lower.
• The department provides a motorized, battery-operated tricycle, not a manual one.
• This financial assistance is a one-time benefit, given only once in a beneficiary's lifetime.
• If the tricycle costs more than ₹25,000, the beneficiary can pay the extra amount themselves.
• The extra amount above ₹25,000 can also be arranged through an MLA fund, an MP local area development fund, or CSR financing.
• The government releases its grant amount directly to the tricycle's supplier firm, not to the beneficiary.
• One-third of each district's yearly tricycle quota is reserved for eligible students studying in high school or higher classes.

Eligibility Requirements

• The applicant must be a resident of Uttar Pradesh.
• The applicant must have a disability of 80% or more, certified by the Chief Medical Officer.
• The applicant must be more than 16 years of age.
• The annual income of the applicant or their family from all sources must not exceed ₹1.80 lakh.
• The applicant must have sufficient physical ability to sit on and operate the motorized tricycle using their hands.
• The applicant must have the prescribed physical and medical fitness, including adequate vision and mental condition, as specified under the scheme rules.
• Eligible students studying in High School or higher classes may also receive the benefit, subject to the prescribed conditions.
• Applicant must not have received a motorized tricycle earlier from the central government, or any other government or government-subsidised source.

Steps to Apply

• Visit the official Uttar Pradesh Divyangjan Empowerment Department portal.
• Click on the online application link from the home page.
• Select "Motorized Tricycle" from the scheme selection option.
• Enter the applicant's personal details, including name, father's/mother's/guardian's name, date of birth, age and gender.
• Enter the applicant's address details, including district, tehsil, residence, complete address, PIN code and mobile number.
• Provide caste details, caste certificate number and minority status, wherever applicable.
• Enter occupation details, monthly income, Aadhaar/UDID number, period of residence in Uttar Pradesh and disability percentage.
• Provide the source of funds for the amount required in excess of the government assistance.
• Upload the required documents, including the disability certificate, residence certificate, income certificate, Aadhaar/other prescribed certificate and caste certificate.
• If the applicant is a student, upload the educational institution certificate, which is mandatory for students.
• Upload the applicant's photograph and signature/thumb impression in the prescribed fields.
• Review all the information and uploaded documents carefully, then submit the application online.
• After submission, the concerned department will scrutinise the application and verify the applicant's eligibility according to the prescribed rules and available funds.

Note: Applicants should enter accurate information and upload valid documents. The application form currently displays the financial year as 2026–27.

Selection and Approval

• The submitted applications are scrutinised by the concerned District Divyangjan Empowerment Officer to verify the applicant's eligibility and documents.
• The applicant's disability and physical ability to operate the motorised tricycle are assessed according to the prescribed conditions. A district-level technical committee is involved in determining whether the applicant is physically capable of operating the vehicle.
• Eligible applications are considered by the prescribed district-level committee for approval, subject to the availability of funds.
• The scheme follows the "First Come, First Served" principle for selection, as stated in the current official district-level scheme information.
• After approval, the motorised tricycle benefit is provided to the selected beneficiary according to the applicable scheme rules.
